So many new games I play I find right at the beginning they just throw you right into their world and speak of concepts, characters, places, people and history of the world immediately

And often its all made up and I dont know the first fuckin thing thats going on

Maybe Im just getting old

Is it doing it organically or very heavy handed?
Because nothing says bad worldbuilding like characters explaining basic concepts that should be obvious to anyone in their world.

So many games just bombard you with information and dont stop to explain shit.

Its the perfect example of a game expecting you to know things that are never explained, and give a shit about details you dont have the first clue about.

Its even worse when the game gives you choice. How am I supposed to choose a response when I have no idea what the fuck yall talkin bout

The one example I can think of somewhat recently is Three Houses. Your character knows next to nothing about the world for some reason, so everyone explains everything to you at the start.

There are players who feel rewarded from games that make them go out of their way to piece together the lore and the story. The Souls games seem like the most successful version of that approach.

Its not great.

Another example may be Disco Elysium. I mean part of the plot is piecing your memory back so its fine to be confused as a player. But I still found myself wondering about the world at large, the politics, geography and other pieces.

FFXIII is the worst offender of this L'Cie, F'al Ciel, etc. Them you need to dig into the data logs. But then youre burnt out and don't want to read updates to it later where large amounts if important info live.

god i hated 13 when people are just spouting those words, it just added to the unbearable things like the hallways and other party members auto attacking
