If a cop fires a non-lethal round at that close of a range should it be treated the same as discharging a real gun at someone?

https://mirror.fro.wtf/reddit/post/3194375

The site is safe, it just mirrors the video so nobody has to deal with the reddit player.

This was in LA, I believe today, in regards to a counter protest to an anti-trans protest. So these people were pro-trans, protesting the anti-trans people.

This was clearly an escalation technique by the LAPD. Any cop that engages in escalation techniques like that needs to be fired, imprisoned and thrown into Gen Pop. Fuck em, if they don't want to be anything other than professional shit stains

Non-lethal rounds can indeed be lethal at close range. At the very least they can penetrate skin. Even at the intended range for them to be used (30+ feet), they can leave massive brusies and welts.

A lot of cops treat non-lethal rounds as basically a toy. Honestly its misuse should probably come with worse punishments than it's lethal counterpart just because of the higher likelihood of misuse.

Well this is nonsense of the highest order.

No such thing as "Non-Lethal". Just less lethal. Rubber bullets can inflict permanent damage or even kill. At close range, there's little different between that and a "real" bullet.

Not because non/less-lethal is somehow more dangerous than real bullets, just that cops are more likely to be complacent or liberal in their use of it.

I got your logic, but there's no selling "misuse of nonlethal force should be treated more harshly than misuse of lethal force" to me.

Misuse of a less lethal gun should be treated the same as misuse of a standard gun, the permanent revoked privilege of using it.

I get where you're coming from, but it's a bad idea. Make unjustified use of less-lethal weapons punishable with harsh measures, sure, but always keep the punishments for lethal weapons even harsher - or, at absolute least, equal. If that means both need to be harsher than they are now, that's not a bad thing.

Apparently it was a bean bag, not a rubber bullet. So its even less lethal but theyre not usually fired at that close range.
