I find it interesting that South Africa and U.S.A both score in the top 3 despite drinking age being 21 there. Most countries that set it as lower "scores" less for drunk driving except Canada(Which can be easily explained by land density)

How can we explain that?

Well.. pretty sure all of those stats would be higher if everybody who drove while being drunk was there.

Ah, that makes more sense, yeah. Drunk drivers here tend to be surprisingly lucky (either that, or so consistently drunk that it doesn't affect them the same way it would an average person).

i actually think it's a cause -- with a higher drinking age, younger people feel the need to binge because the opportunities are rarer for them. they never start slow and learn their limits, and so as they get older, their "limit" is perceived to be much higher, when it's really not, so they end up driving when they shouldn't be.

first time i got drunk was in high school, it was solely because i knew i was staying the night at a buddy's and we had just scored a handle of vodka, so i was like welp we don't get to do this every day so i gotta make it count!

Does this mean drivers in South Africa are really good at avoiding accidents and it's mostly when alcohol gets involved that accidents happen?
