I don't get how they can even afford to be so fat

Fast food and junk food is expensive as shit. Even if you just order off the dollar menu exclusively, you'd still have to spend like at least $5 a meal to get super fat.

Let alone a whole family of fat people
It's cheaper and more convenient than healthy food.

Convenient? Yeah. Cheaper? No.

I can make one big meal for myself to eat throughout the week and its pretty cheap. Pack of 2.5 pounds of chicken- $4.25, tortillas - $3.50/4, Monterrey Jack - $1.75-2.50, Onion, Cilantro and Bell Pepper - $3.50. Throw in some light sour cream and you got chicken quesadillas all week for $15 bucks. Just find you some breakfast and switch out lunch/dinnner here and there.

Alright, now let's factor in the material and labor cost of that.

You got a pan to cook that stuff in? An oven? Gas or electricity to run it?

Actually, let's back it up: do you have a refrigerator to put that food in? Do you have reliable transportation to a grocery store that sells these items?

Should we get into the time it takes? You might literally not have that time if you're working two jobs or juggling childcare.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Of course you have pans, ovens, and fridges!" But... a lot of people literally don't. And it can be really difficult to scrape together the money for some of those items when you need to eat. Tell me, if you're hungry and you have $10 for the week, what are you going to buy: food or a pan?

I'm very fortunate. I have all kinds of cookware. I have reliable transportation to a grocery store. I actually enjoy cooking and have enough education on the subject to do that without ruining the food/can even make it taste pretty damn good. Even with that, I don't have a clue how to prep a whole chicken at the moment. I'm sure I could learn... but I'm not working two grueling jobs or taking care of kids.

If youre having trouble losing weight, chances are that youre eating more sugar than you realize. You need to exercised so cutting carbs is not helpful after a certain point. Sugar is hiding in stuff like salad dressing, beef jerky, and granola. You think youre replacing an unhealthy snack with something healthy, but your granola bar has as much sugar as a Twix.

Some people give up too easily, too. Youre not going to see your desired results overnight and following fad diets or exercise doesnt work for everyone. Just know what youre eating before you buy it. Those healthy cereals are PACKED with sugar, like on the level of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

The incredibly small amount of people you're describing that literally don't have any kitchenware or 10 minutes to make and eat a sandwhich for lunch every day aren't going to have the time to go eat out 12 times a week or spend 250 on expensive junk food

One of the most common mistakes I've noticed is that people think they should automatically start losing weight because they started "eating healthy". That just means they replaced the pie and beans for dinner with several more portions of premade salad and breakfast bars. The caloric density is insane.

It's more people than you think and you're ignoring the fact that they can swing by a place with a dollar menu on the way home (or even likely work there).

Try again.

Pretending literally every meal is from the dollar menu is also disingenuous. And nobody is getting to 300+lbs from eating a mcdouble everyday day. Also all these people have a car but no kitchenware is also fake as fuck. You're grossly over exaggerating

They're eating / spending way more than that

Yeah most people arent going to lack a stove, pan and electricity, thats usually basic amenities.

Also It takes me one day out of the week to prepare this mega meal for myself. Maybe an hour and a half of prep time and I can just get 2-3 episodes of a Netflix show watched during that time so no mental labor there.

If someone is having money issues and is needing to work two jobs, prepping your own meals is definitely contributing to helping budget your money. Eating out is almost always more costly then eating at home. Its the cost of labor plus the need to make a profit. Even if we are to take things like dollar menus into the equation, lets be honest, dollar menus hardly ever offer anything for just a dollar anymore.

The most cost effective meal if you are really struggling is ramen @ .38c a package, less if you buy it bundled. But I shudder to think of someones diet who only subsists off of ramen, or fast food burgers and fries for that matter.

To the obviously offended overweight people, simply consume less calories than you burn a day.

Cut your portions in half. You're not going to die if you eat less. You'll actually begin to feel better about yourself once you begin to lose weight.
Exercise too. Instead of sitting and watching tiktok and YouTube for hours, put the phone down and do some push-ups and crunches.

Knowledge of the mechanics of weight loss isn't the only factor. Mental/emotional health and financial/time management matter as well, as do individual biology (I'm NOT talking about metabolism) and environment. The only thing a vast majority of fat people have in common is that they're taking in more calories than they burn. The variation in reasons behind that is endless though, so you can't give such general advice like it's all that matters, even if it is functionally sound.

It's not enough to know that you're eating too much and that you should eat less. You have to figure out why you eat so much in the first place and/or why you can't continue eating like that, and either one of those things can potentially be a very daunting undertaking. It can include things like changing lifelong habits, confronting a painful past, or compromise/sacrifice in social or professional situations. That can take time and effort far beyond the act of cutting portions in half.

On the other side of things, consequences can be a powerful motivator. It took the looming specter of death to finally get me to change. Then again, even that might not be enough to make someone change. Humans will take all kinds of things, turn it into a problem, then complain about it while doing nothing to change as the situation just gets worse and worse. Meaningful action can be hard to come by the further you get into a bad situation.

When the compulsion to overeat, wherever it comes from, meets the inability to stop, it's terribly easy to get stuck in a negative feedback loop. It's a very rich tapestry that can quickly and easily complicate even the most simple and reasonable requests, like eating less. Navigating all of that is a bitch.

KINDERFELD posted...
You'll actually begin to feel better about yourself once you begin to lose weight.
That's far from a guarantee and another oversimplification. Weight loss has benefits that can include a boost in self-esteem but it can also have drawbacks, especially for heavier people or people who've been fat for a long time. It is a dramatic process with all kinds of adjustments to make along the way and upon completion. There are lots of things to be found and lost through weight loss, and they're not neatly categorized between the good and bad.

I can say from personal experience that the mental adjustment has been rough in ways I never anticipated and I've had to really dig deep for the persistence and toughness to get through it, though I contend it is entirely worth it.

Usually it's people with high metabolisms that are always hungry. If you're fat, and always hungry, it's because your diet probably consist of chocolate, and cotton candy (obviously not exactly but a lot of sugar basically). If people that used to weigh like 400-500 pounds can lower their weigh down to below 200, I refuse to believe that fat people aren't just too lazy to try any sort of diet.

2. Weight gain
A significant risk of consuming excess dietary sugar is weight gain.
In most cases, sugary foods and drinks are high in calories. Consuming too many of these products will lead to weight gain, even with regular exercise. There is strong evidenceTrusted Source
showing that excess dietary sugar is a cause of weight gain.

Sugary and unhealthy food can definitely make you gain weight. The reason why Americans tend to be so fat is because unhealthy foods, and sugary shit is so accessible.

Ive been starting to lose weight again 100% just to feel better. Hard path though. Im currently rocking that line between burning more than Im taking in a day. Im gonna have to dial the diet up a notch to really get somewhere.

At least with my body type, Ive gotten lucky in that I grow into an extra 50-80 pounds about as swell as possible, partly due to a weightlifting background back in college. All I can say is that office jobs suck for meaningful weight loss. You are actually paid to sit at a desk all day with little movement and youre constantly getting asked to eat lunch out with coworkers, or being tempted with breakfast food somebody brought in.
