The biggest tip is not to get discouraged early on because Henry sucks at everything and even a simple 1-on-1 encounter is a matter of life and death. This is by design, simply because Henry can pick up a sword and wear armor, yet isn't even remotely a trained fighter. You'll need to go deeper into the story to really learn about parries and so on.
