Read LOTR, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, etc. Tolkien was using an old epic style of writing in LOTR/TS like the tellings of legends of old since his stories are supposed to legends of our distant past. It's probably not for everybody. We had to read through the each book (as in Fellowship, Two Towers) in a week and this was after combing through The Silmarillion with draconian quizzes about various elf genealogies. It was nuts. Thankfully watching the movies and already reading Fellowship back in my senior year of high school helped make that part of the class a walk in the park but yeah not recommended for beginners. --- Beware the fanatic!
