Not sure if my distaste for Gaze is fully because of the music or if the gross name is playing a part in it. Another song I wonder if I'd like if it weren't in chiptune format.

As is often the case, not a fan of this rhythm game music, but I dislike the other song more.

I adore I Believe, but while I didn't expect to like Wavetapper given it's, well, bizarre for a normie like me, it does somehow manage to have its own weird charm to it despite having a literal fax signal as part of its music and some of its "vocals" sound like samples from Moonbase Alpha. I might have voted for it in the second match, and that blows my mind.

MATCH 1

Colress Battle is an interesting song, but it was never one of my favorite Black and White songs. 1:20-1:44 is the best part of the song.

Gaze at My Sour Cream Burrito is a pretty nice chiptune song. Something catchy like this is nice to hear in a chiptune song because I think it's one of the things that will make me really like a chiptune song where other similar songs don't really achieve that.

MATCH 2

This Bahram Attack remix is really cool! The vocal parts starting at 1:30 are definitely the highlight of the song for me. The vocals at 1:57 sound like she's saying "oayo" and it reminds me of that one Korone Inugami sound clip, which is funny considering this song is arranged by Nekomata Okayu Master.

Exercise Mode is a pretty solid song. I think my favorite part about this song might be the bassline at the beginning lol. I think how it sounds with the FM synth of the Genesis sound chip helps because I think it makes for some really nice guitar sounds. The multiplayer theme is more my thing from this game's soundtrack.

MATCH 3

I Believe's grown on me quite a bit since the nomination phase. I like Life Will Change more, but this song's a nice variation on that. My favorite part's the chorus, but the whole song's pretty good.

Wavetapper's not my thing at all. Those ominous sounding chords at 1:30 are pretty cool, but I don't care for these vocal samples.

I remember liking Colress a lot more last year.

Bahram Attack is pretty cool. I like the vocal part way more than I probably should.

Wavetapper is my least favorite song in the contest and it isn't even close. I wish I could say I respect what it was going for even if it's not my thing, but here I really don't.

just put me down for 'tracks using lo-fi vocal samples' I guess
-there's a rhythmic playfulness to Colress that I think is cool; it's shifty about where the downbeat of a bar would normally be, so you have moments like 1:19 where it almost feels like Hitomi Sato is introducing an extra beat or bar but actually it's just that melody starting later than expected. It also makes moments like 0:59, where Colress is rigidly counting down the beat, stand out much more. I love the fills that are thrown in every other bar at 0:36, especially the second one.
-I really closely associate the pic used in the video to this track at this point. Despite how heavy the beat can be at times this feels pretty chill, probably a combination of the vocals and Nekomata Master's typically light pluck synths. 3:09's little synth-focused section is super cool and I find myself enjoying it more each time; each of the three tracks I voted for today has one of these moments, where I just get into the flow of the quick attack/decay sounds.
-one of the things I like about Wavetapper is that the heavy use of sounds of fairly indeterminate pitch makes the few clearly pitched synths stand out a lot. Nowhere is this more apparent to me than when the blue cube comes in at 0:53 (probably my favourite cube in the track). The telephone beeps come through starkly for a pretty similar reason; they're just tonally very distinct, and I think Frums uses that to great effect here.
