Not really an issue.

I spy with my little eye, the kid who was a domestic abuse victim growing up, and who is likely to continue the cycle at this rate :(

I dont work in the public school system (still got awhile to go in my career as far as my own schooling goes) but I have worked after school with kids considered at risk

What I know about kids is this: there is a line between parent and child and one between master and student, you can be very casual with someone and they will be more open and may even get familiar with you.. too familiar in fact

and *poof* there goes any semblance of reverence, not to the teaching profession, but to the idea of studying as a professional

I feel like this teacher probably has let all the students walk all over him tbh, the kids in my class were always throwing shit and or acting disruptive supposedly so I walked in and basically presented myself as someone with a job to do and if they wanted respect and to be treated as an adult then they will act accordingly

This was not without positive reinforcement via this is kids stuff, youre telling me youre not smart enough to deal with your self? Cmon I know youre smarter than this, I know you can do this, you just need to untangle the confusion so show me the part that you need help with and Ill show you how easy your own life can be with 2% of effort added in

stuff like that peppered in from time to time

kids open up sometimes when they can relate to someone they feel is cool

they used to tell me mr but college is for white people (this was in 2018, mind you)

and I would have to go off on a tangent about it how I used to think this and my whole job now is to make sure I can equip pupils like them to be successful and how to problem solve to where things arent a matter of being smart or dumb, its a matter of simply understanding and or problem solving steps to set up more complicated steps

having resilience to deal with life via if this is how you handle it now, how are you going to handle your business and life in the future - you have to train your patience like a boxer would after he gets punched in the face, they needs to stay calm and cool so lets train together this skill

And of course some kids have it hard at home so I would tell them Im a safe space to talk about how their work is affected if it is affected at all ever

its not a one size fits all, it cant be, every group of students are full of different individuals

but I think instilling this idea of their own future and their own life in their hands definitely makes them a little bit conscious of who they are and who they want to be
