I had someone do a couple of art commissions for me, and they did a great job, but they took a little longer than I was expecting. So in the like, review breakdown for one order, I gave them five stars for everything except for 'time it took' or whatever, and gave them 4 there, which averaged it out to 4.7.
The second order I just gave them 5 stars across the board.

A few weeks go by, and I asked the same artist if they can do a few more commissions and they tell me basically 'Hey, nothing personal, but due to the way that Fiverr works, I really can't afford to take on clients if I don't meet their full expectations. I hope you understand.'

Long story short, I went and looked into it, and apparently Fiverr is so strict with sellers, that if their average reviews go like 10% under perfect, that seller loses the ability to send PMs to potentially clients, effectively neutering them to the point they can't operate anymore.
This has resulted in this weird community culture there now where sellers went deal with you ever again unless you give them five stars on every single part of the review. So bizarre.

tl;Dr fuck Fiverr

Oh so that's why it's called Fiverr. Always 5 stars.

That's so fucking gross. Doesn't surprise me at all. I made a Fiverr a few years ago and it just felt like such a race to the bottom. Like, all these professionals groveling and begging for tuppence.

So many companies do that crap with reviews, proud of themselves for haxxing and automating quality control and HR in one step. I hate reviewing interactions with humans anyhow, but being forced to break it down granularly and knowing that a 4 is a "bad" is degrading to both the worker and me. Like BlueMonk said, it just makes them worthless.

That's what I thought immediately! Like, if it's going to be so binary like that, just change reviews to to Negative or Positive experience.

I felt bad and apologized to the guy too. I told him I figured 4/5 is still great when I review things, so I felt like it was fair, and he seemed kind of passive aggressive about it, but wasn't nasty or anything. It's awkward because he was the one that originally recommended doing business through Fiverr instead of PayPal, so I feel like he could have mentioned that to me. But I still feel bad :\
