Banjo-Kazooie is far, far less bland than Mario 64.

Yes, much more care went into BK's world than Mario 64's, it's a better game.

Its not hard to imagine 64 is remembered for setting the foundation but Kazooie is remembered for nearly perfecting the concept of a 3D platformer.

Bajo Kazuy is the better game but it did have the benefit of releasing years after Mario 64. They were able to use Mario 64 as a template / example.

Yes. For some reason I never cared about Mario 64. Years later I played Banjo Kazooie and enjoyed it.

The biggest difference is that Mario kinda feels empty and almost creepy quiet. Banjo kazooie is loud, boisterous, noises are going on all the time. Everywhere you turn theres some kind of silly animal making noises when talking to you

Moving around in banjo always looked slow to me so I haven't played it, am I wrong about that? I do like Mario 64 and moving around in that game is fun

Mostly for the charm, although Mario controlled so flawlessly compared everything else at the time. I would say theyre even in my book.

Revisiting it, Mario 64 feels like a tech demo, whereas Banjo Kazooie feels like a game built on that tech.

Forcing you to redo the entire level to get the gem because you died at the end isn't challenge, just tedium.

B-K is a more polished game than M64, but I also feel that M64 gives the player a bit more freedom.
Like, Banjo can't even even walk up a slight grade without Kazooie's help...

That said, B-K is great and the writing is funny. The game is also more legit challenging than M64

As someone that's a much bigger fan of Mario than B&K, and didn't even play Banjo's first game until after he joined Smash and thus has no nolstalgia for Banjo...

I'd honestly probably put Banjo and Kazooie over Mario 64. As much as I appreciate Mario 64's impact for 3D platformers, that game is a HUGE pain to actually play through and many 3D platformers definitely fine-tuned the formula.

That's not what I'm talking about.

Some of the levels (Sunset Vista, The High Road, Slippery Climb, etc.) are really, really hard. I don't think there's any other 3D platformer with that level of difficulty.
