yeah i agree with you and scorcese, seems like the recent marvel movies all suck. I mean the early x men movies and stuff were ok, but not much after

I think Scorcese is just a gatekeeping elitist. That being said, he likely has some valid reasons for feeling the way he does about modern 'films".

Though to be fair though, he's been in Hollywood's inner circle for so long, he's likely out of touch about what kind of movies people like to see in 2021.

I don't know if I agree with him but I don't think that Marvel or superhero movies are the height of the medium either.

Seems to me he was just being a snob.

This is pretty much spot on. His take is basically that they are destroying traditional cinema. Martin is probably a big fan of the movie Joker though, its basically a scorcese comic book movie. It probably ticks him off a bit too to see his style applied to an actual comic book flick. I will say this, he is right about superhero movies ruining traditional cinema, but imo hollywood has been rehashing ideas for so long its really their own fault for lacking originality. How many mafia gangster movies is enough? 10 years of superhero buzz due to great vfx is nothing i will complain about cuz i appreciate the art but yeah it seems like every year it gets harder and harder to create something that is simple and is also really really good. I think hollywood should invest into making more movies about mathematics, numerology and probability, i think thats a gold mine.

Yes. What he said wasn't even remotely controversial. The MCU just has this super bizarre and insecure fan base that gets overly protective of the series. I feel bad for anyone that considers those stupid movies to be high art. Like, even a lot of the people who read comics can admit that they aren't these complex cerebral master pieces because the comics themselves have had better stories.

I did enjoy them at first, but def overstayed their welcome.

Lets be honest though, infinity war is a beautiful movie. If there was no actual context and build up, the movie is still a beautiful scifi with a very poetic although grim ending. Had the MCU ended at infinity war i think even martin himself would have to admit it was a damn good way to end it. They ruined it with endgame though, i know the good guys always gotta win but i think that was what made infinity war so special to me. The ending was this beautiful poetic scifi scene that really made you empathize with thanos, he was wrong but it opens things up for deep philosophical discussions.

I'm not a fan of superhero movies (with few exceptions), but I can acknowledge why people enjoy them.

I don't think he is salty about himself. I think he feels that "films", as he would call them, don't get the traction and therefore are less likely to be made.

But I think streaming is helping with that again, such as with Judas and the Black Messiah, Nomadland, Trial of the Chicago 7, etc

I mean, that is kind of your loss. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street. Not trying to be an ass; just trying to encourage watching them. His movies are highly entertaining
