I'm in charge of the alcohol for my mother's wedding. I've never heard of beer being served, but I'd like the guests to have sone options as well.

What?

Did you grow up in some old money family or something?

Any wedding without beer is a bad wedding.

Not if it's really good beer, but even then, that can't be the only option. Also, good beer in bulk is expensive.

I haven't been to a single wedding that had beer. The afterparty, sure.

I think Americans have this skewed as fuck idea that a wedding is a hideously stale and sanitised affair where everyone sits down on enormous round tables with people they don't know for 3 hours listening to speeches and someone has to fork out 50 grand or more for the privilege

I've only been to one wedding as an adult. I had some liquor but I don't remember any beer.

sounds like an opinion based question that only the bride and groom can answer for their own wedding.

Some weddings are similar to that, but most are not.

I've been to hundreds of weddings and most of them are just a quick ceremony and a party with food and booze of all varieties. Usually they have a keg or two of whatever beer is favored by the bride or groom, some wine for the elderly family members, and some hard liquor as well.

Hundreds? How do you get out to hundreds? Big family?

I went to a very classy Naval Officer's wedding reception at the Officers Club in San Diego. All the fixings. Full ceremony (swords, etc.). There was a full but not open bar.

There were 3 kegs in the corner with self serve mugs. Everyone said it was the best wedding ever.

A trashy wedding will have Swanson nuggets, Tostitos and Hi-C Hawaiian Punch. Trust me, I know.

Leave your gift with the hostess, congratulate the bride's parents, then GTFO. I wish I did.

Dead serious, this happened.

You can dress it up with ribbons, flowers, etc, as well. The first one was at the O Club. By the time they tapped the 2nd keg, no one gave a damn.

TC I've NEVER heard of beer NOT being served at a wedding in addition to all other kinds of alcohol.

Also there's more to beer than just stuff like Coors. Especially this day in age with all the craft brews available, consider some good ales for the occasion. But I would still have Bud, Miller or Coors on tap in addition anyway.

I've only been to weddings in Colorado and Texas but all of them had beer fancy or not.

Though I'd add that I've been to weddings in Colorado that don't serve stuff like Coors Light and instead only had selections of craft beers, mostly local stuff.

No, and anybody who says it would be trashy is insane.

Could you imagine an open bar that just straight up wasn't serving beer? That doesn't make any sense to me.

IIRC the one with the keg I went to had Miller. Not a craft brew but good enough. The bar (which you had to pay for) had craft beers, but I thought the keg was a nice touch for people who might be on a tight budget. Everyone got a couple rounds at the bar but most of the men finished the evening at the keg. Quite a few ladies too.

The keg was free btw. About 80-100 people, 3 kegs. I had my fill.
