Early on, the target herd immunity threshold was estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent of the population. Most experts, including Dr. Fauci, expected that the United States would be able to reach it once vaccines were available.
But as vaccines were developed and distribution ramped up through the winter and into the spring, estimates of the threshold began to rise. That is because the initial calculations were based on the contagiousness of the original version of the virus. The predominant variant now circulating in the United States, called B.1.1.7 and first identified in Britain, is about 60 percent more transmissible.
As a result, experts now calculate the herd immunity threshold to be at least 80 percent. If even more contagious variants develop, or if scientists find that immunized people can still transmit the virus, the calculation will have to be revised upward again.

I'm not sure if the US ever reaches that 80% threshold. Even with the population who have already had the virus.

The vaccines are effective against all variants. Obviously the stronger ones will be harder to fight, people can and will still get sick, but it won't be as deadly. People who have both doses will be fine.

Yeah Ive been disappointed by this. If celebrities arent willing to get vaccinated, thats fine - its their choice. However, using their platform to publicly go against the vaccines is horrible.

Joe Rogan, whose primary audience demographic is 20-something year old men, said on his podcast he would advise against a 21 year old getting vaccinated. Joe Rogan. With all of his medical and public health credentials. Id imagine theres a hefty portion of his audience that are in that demographic that wont get the vaccine now. Just because he said not to.

Disagree. Locking down unnecessary stores, entertainment venues, schools, and restrictions on gatherings will at least help reduce spread among the unvaccianted, thus reducing mutation possibilities or even getting vaccinated people infected. That way we can mitigate hospitalizations while an actual cure is worked on.

And I sympathize for children having to go through this. But whatever issues they may develop do not compare to dying or losing their family to a deadly disease. Full stop.

we have a vaccine that is safe. It works and it helps immensely.

thats when I stop caring about the death rates of those who refuse to be vaccinated, as far as Im concerned theyre the reason why we havent reached herd immunity and putting those who cannot be vaccinated because of underlying issues at risk.

as a parent of a child, watching her change in a year was saddening and depressing. She loved going out everywhere and was very sociable. Now shes practically scared of her shadow. All within a year because of lack of social interaction.

hopefully shes still young enough to overcome the anxiety. But I feel for even older children this could have long term effects.

dont get me wrong I really dont want to see people die. But at the same token Im not going to sit here and make excuses for them when their own choices are the cause of their demise.

the amount of people I see on socially media repeatedly share quack info about vaccines is disheartening. One girl has a child who has never gotten a vaccine and hasnt even been to a pediatrician!!!

Colleges are refusing to admit anyone for in person classes unless they get it. Was 100 schools, should go up. I want criminal charges for reckless endangerment for anybody who falsifies documentation and ends up getting it tbh.

the problem is you can still get covid even if youre vaccinated.

its going to be hard to actually prove if they got a falsified card BUT I have noticed every injection has a code so they could cross reference that information. The only way around that is a doctor wasting a vaccine and throwing it away to please a nut job.
