Lowe's was the only close one back home but Menards was usually the "special trip" for us.

Looked up Lowe's Wikipedia and found this piece of shit decision they made back in 2011.:

They seem the exact same to me. But the Home Depot is closer to me.

HOWEVER, if I only want a small quantity, I usually go to Ace.

I guess I prefer Home Depot cause I'm more used to it. They have great return policies. A lot of times, I'd just buy some tool I needed for the time being and then return it when I'm done

Lowes is nicer than Home Depot, but I feel Home Depot has better prices and selections. Pretty much Target vs Walmart.

Lowes is a little more expensive than Home Depot. To put it simply, Home Depot = Walmart and Lowes = Target.

Feel like Lowes hires more people who are actually knowledgable about things. Had much better experiences asking for help there than Home Depot. Could vary drastically across locations though.

There's no Lowe's in my city and I rarely went to the one at home. I usually go to Ace or Home Depot depending on what I need. Menard's is pretty good too.

I like Lowe's better. I feel like they have more of a variety of the things I go there to shop for like houseplants. However, I usually end up going to Home Depot more often because they are closer to where I live.

They carry some different brands. For tools, HD has Husky, Lowes has Kobalt. I prefer Husky to Kobalt. I think Ryobi and Rigid in HD only and not lowes (but not house brands, you can find them elsewhere). Also different windows and paint brands among others.

HD focuses more on contractors, like 50% of their business is on contractor accounts, Lowes focuses more on DIYers, about 25% of their business is contractor accounts.

The buildings themselves can be different, Lowes generally feel more like a completed store, Home Depot I've seen many more birds flying around in the building, more of a warehouse feel. Though individual Lowes can be pretty warehouse and individual HDs can be quite store like.

Oh yeah, Home Depot dicked me out of 8 grand too. Sort off. Paid them to refinish the kitchen cabinets in house I bought. After they get done I notice the doors are crooked. I call Home Depot and they send the same guy out (who barely speaks English.) Dude is like, well the cabinet is on the wall crooked so the door looks crooked. Wed have to rehang the cabinet. Im like, WTF, why didnt you tell me that when you were doing the job? So then Im left with the choice of tearing out half the finished cabinets to fix a crooked door or just learn to live with it. I called Home Depot and their like, well youll have to take it up with the installer. Then why the fuck did I go through Home Depot then? I could have hired a guy off the street myself.

Long story short, hire your own installers/contractors because Home Depot will hang your ass out to dry if they fuck up.
