When I was in the Army, my record was 92 in 2 minutes for the PT test. I'm nearly 40 now with a bad shoulder and can still do about 40.

I tried to do 50 on a bet drunk like 3 weeks ago. Made 46. I honestly thought I could do 50 for sure even though I'm not exactly in great shape.

my max is about 25 and then aim around 20 per subsequent set... maybe 30-25~ on a good day at my peak.

usually when you see people do tons of push ups in a row there will always be form or range of motion issues.

not saying it's not possible but chances are they're doing them like:

30 isn't a lot if you work out often. I've been lazy lately and can only do like 25 in one go.

Yeah exactly, they're two different movements, and that's not even to mention just dropping in between reps vs lowering

I did 2 yesterday. Had to stop because I was afraid I'd become too powerful.

it's better to not do your max on the first set

leave a few reps in the tank. you'll be able to do more reps on subsequent sets, which leads to more volume and thus more gains

Yes. Have you tried training? Training helps.

i train for other things. i don't like pushing exercises in general, but when i do do them, i tend to do low reps

I do them on my knuckles and can do between 25 and 30 in a sitting.

by max i mean failure since i always rep to failure regardless of exercise.

by failure i mean tired enough that i can actually continue my workout after a brief rest and not failure as in sweat dripping down my face and shivering body due to exhaustion.

haven't heard of going "easy" on the first set and then go full out on subsequent sets before.
