So every day we earn tips that go on our paycheck. We get credit those tips after the week is over.

My employer operates two properties, property 1 and property 2. Recently we had to share our staff with property 2. Most of the staff on the team prefers property 2, I prefer property 1.

Credit tips are only earned at property 1. Most of the team works the whole week at property 2, and maybe works one shift at property 1.

So there was around $1700 in credit tips. I was expecting minimum $500 based on what I worked last week (7 days).

So when Iook at my employee account, I was only credited $236. Turns out he just divided all the tips by all 7 people total on staff. So even one person who only worked once at property 1 got $236. Another person who only worked once also got $236. There are 2 other people on staff who should have got at least $400.

I am livid. This is unfair. I don't know if my manager was just being lazy when doing the calculations or if he just wanted to give everyone a good amount since it was a crazy week. Still not a good reason since most didn't work at property 1.

I was gonna say something today but just didn't get the chance. I don't know where to start. We have a good relationship IMO.

I believe he needs to adjust the tips. Not sure if he can but maybe there's something that can be done since the payroll period hasn't ended.

I feel like I'm gonna quit on the spot if I get too emotional.

What do you think?

  1. Was the way tips were going to be broken up not explained upon hiring?
  2. is there no employee handbook you can reference?
  3. How about you talk with your manager like an adult before you become livid and emotional and contemplate quitting on the spot?
  4. Is this university of beer?

It was always split evenly among the staff, which I had no problem with. My problem now is that the other staff members are getting the same amount of money for way less work than before. Now they work mostly at property 2 and only work at property 1 once, which is where all the credit tips are earned. Most of the staff prefers to work at property 2.

okay.. wait..

was it always split evenly amongst the two stores?

like normally, if you only worked at property 2, did you normally NOT get any tips?

Are they doing way less work in total, or way less work at property 1?

Do this.

Take your hours and show him what your hourly is with your tips vs the people only working one days hourly. It should be substantially in their favor and he can understand why youre upset. Splitting tips like that only works if its based on hours worked.

He knows how much everyone is working. My thing is I dunno if he's just being lazy when doing the tip distribution. I don't think he uses an excel sheet for this.

Property 2 is under a different system from property 1. If you work the whole week at property 2 you don't get tips since credit tips are only earned at property 1. Which is why I am mad that people working 1 day of the week at property 1 are getting the same amount as me. I work 5 days at P1.

Is there a reason why you dont work at property 2 and why they avoid property 1?

I'm fine where I'm at. There was more money to be made recently at property 2 but it just started to pick up again at property 1.

I just did an excel spreadsheet where the tip is split by specific day worked (fairer way), and I would be making double/triple what I'm getting right now.

:(

TC is getting ripped off.

if i was a manager doing payroll. just split the tip between whomever is working the property that day. they're entitled if they work that day only.
