Barring nasal sprays and netti pots, what are other ways to treat it?

I have severe nasal congestion and I've done the Googling and with the exception on nasal sprays (which work but you're not supposed to use after a few days) what's the best alternative?

Claritin-D works well for me.

Gonna need a prescription probably from an allergist though.

Drinking lots of water, warm bathes etc. also helps

You don't need a prescription for anything with Sudafed. You can just go to the pharmacy counter and ask for it. They'll ask for your ID and you sign a waiver/consent form based on the Combat Methamphetamine Act of 2005.

Get some strong herbal tea (loose leaf or rip the bag open and dump the tea in) brew it in a bowl, make it really strong, and put your face over the bowl with a towel over your head to keep the steam contained and breathe it in for 5 or 10 mins.

So nobody's gonna suggest fluticasone propionate/Flonase?
I know it's a nasal spray, but it's literally designed to be used to long-term for chronic nasal congestion.

Asking for help with congestion, but saying no nasal spray, is like saying "what do I do for this open bleed, besides bandages and gauze? Oh, and no hemostatic dressings either."

Because I already use nasal sprays and they can't be used after a few days.

Although I might try Flonase. That is one I haven't tried yet.

Fluticasone propionate isnt the same as acute nasal decongestants, it's a corticosteroid. Like I said already, it's supposed to be used long-term. As in for weeks or even months. It doesn't instantly unclog your nose, but instead it gradually reduces inflammation and helps build up your sinuses resistance to irritants.

It used to be prescription, but a couple years ago it was switched to OTC, so now you can buy it (and non-name-brand versions) anywhere.

Flonase is what always works for me. I've had pretty severe congestion since my teenage years. Anytime I need to do something that really requires me to not be congested, I use that.

Thank you.

I'm gonna get some asap. I take it there's cheaper "generic" brands I can buy?

Yes, it's $89, but it's worth it if you deal with nasal congestion and allergies. It's like taking a pressure washer to your sinuses getting all of the gunk out.

I've used sudafed if I was congested before bed.

However you should get checked for allergies and maybe see an ENT to check if you have enlarged turbinates.

A symptom of that is if you lay down for a while and one nostril gets completely clogged.

Having HEPA air filters running in my house actually made the biggest difference to me. I used to use Flonase and pseudoephedrine as I would get congestion as well but since using filters in the home, I havent had a stuffy nose in years and havent had to use any medications.

I have one of those and I think the damn thing worked so good that it messed with my sense of smell. I freaked out thinking I had COVID again for a moment.
