You buy a game you got into the hype for but for whatever reason it just doesn't stick. Either it's too hard, too complicated, too much busywork, too slow etc. So you get bored and quit.

Months or even years later you pick it up again and you get absolutely hooked and it becomes your favourite game of the year?

I can think of two examples: Hollow Knight and Divinity Original Sin 2. So glad I gave both of these another shot.

This happened to me with Lucah: Born of a Dream. When I first played it the visual style made it impossible for me to remember where I was or what I was doing. When I played it again I just kind of felt differently about it, I made the disorientation and lack of knowledge/landmarks a part of the experience as that % bar in the top right raised.

This vaguely happened to me recently with Final Fantasy IX. I had played it as a kid and didn't really appreciate it all that much. I revisited it last month and absolutely loved it.

Veey glad that I gave it a second shot.
