I so wish I were still playing.

I did play Gershwins Appalachian Spring for one group of students and Griegs Morning Mood for the other.

I play the bassoon. Also flute and a few other instruments from my marching band days. But for orchestra I play the bassoon.

Hm...I'm gonna go with no. Sorry, friend

Unless he was playing orchestral excerpts on guitar and you were listening to strengthen your perspective on said excerpts

I know this question wasn't for me, but mine is Dvorak's "New World," followed closely by Beethoven's 6th, "Pastorale," which has an awesome bassoon part in the second movement.

I'd have to say right now it's Bernstein Symphony 2 "Age of Anxiety".

It's not as traditional a symphony, though...if I had to pick one that is more standard I'd say Sibelius 2, Prokofiev 5, and Brahms 4 are all up there with it.

Concerto for Skin Flute in A Minor.
You had an orchestra accompanying you? I'd love to see it! Or were you not the soloist?

How about you? Favorite(s)?

Franck Violin Sonata also gets a mention as one of my favorite pieces that isnt a symphony (and Im learning that its extremely hard to play on bass).

very nice. I transcribed Charlie Parkers solo on Anthropology, and it is certainly not bass-friendly. I imagine its tough on trumpet too because saxophones are so uniquely good at playing zig zag lines

I only really use his stuff for vocabulary (as opposed to feel) so I just use the omnibook
