His case makes sense, just as the case would have made sense the other way around too.

The issue is that more people should be standing up for salary discrimination that those that actually do. Women getting paid unfairly less have every right to argue for equal treatment. The challenge is getting them to say something or do something about it.

In my experience, white men are more likely to speak up in these types of situations than women and minorities. That just makes the optics look rather one-sided.

Even if that is true, that would be a difference between 1-5% anually. Not 52.000 pound or over 71.000 dollar.

The black woman was intentionally overpaid because just before she got hired a white guy got a similar payroll and they were worried about a wage discrimination lawsuit. I'm not sure why the first white guy got paid so much but it's clear that's not what they normally pay people. They tried to hire the guy in the article at a more reasonable salary.

I'm kind of confused by this story. If they're civil servants, why 1) would they have different pay at all and 2) why would it ever be a secret?

Whenever I've looked at public sector work the salaries are completely transparent.

Yeah I really hate that. Its why they always ask for your desired salary, and then some take it a step further and ask the lowest amount youd be willing to take.

Like it absolutely kills companys to pay you fairly, and you have to drag them into it, kicking and screaming.

In an ideal situation yes it would help so that the company will just pay everyone the same but this won't always happen. The company could fire you for this if they are an at-will company.
