The PUC met in an emergency open meeting on Monday evening to address concerns that "certain pricing mechanisms were not generating an optimal response" to the electricity crisis sparked by the extreme winter weather in the state, according to a news release issued on Monday.

Following the meeting, commissioners issued an order to modify pricing models to "more accurately reflect the scarcity conditions in the market."

The order also directed the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which monitors the state's power grid, to adjust past prices to reflect the current shortage of energy.

Skyscrapers lit up while homes were purposely turned off so the power could supply those skyscrapers.

So... pay more for the same level of service? i.e freeze to death?

Yeah, no. By not being connected to the national grid, they got around regulations that would require cold weather capabilities (which obviously cost most on installation).

Because throwing more money at a flaming tire fire is going to fix the issue, yes...

Is that what happened? God dammit

Yeah, because here in cold weather places when we lose power due to a storm, its not because they dont have power to give us, its because the lines get knocked down so that power cant get to us. And people that heat their houses with natural gas still have gas (and as long as you have a generator so the furnace can start up you can heat your house).

And what would you get for that $5400+ a year?

The same results, since 95% of that $5400/year is going straight to some fat cats pocket.

I get not liking taxes but besides your standard big federal tax, and maybe certain state taxes, I can't think of a single tax that you'd pay $5400 a year on. These people are getting "taxed" without even realizing it and they have no proper recourse to even address it because it isn't like you can vote the company owners out
