Yes. Just as women should be allowed to write male characters.
If a man is a misogynist or just generally doesn't understand that women are people, just like men, then that writer needs an editor checking his scripts to make sure the characters are believable.
Similarly, if a woman is a misandrist or just generally doesn't understand that men are people, just like women, then that writer needs an editor checking her scripts to make sure the characters are believable.
Preferably an editor of the opposite sex, and one who is allowed to speak against their boss and tell them they've done something wrong without getting instantly fired.
