I spent roughly 1100 one mine. Top of the line is going to be 3000+ easy. I mean the gpu alone is going to cost over 1000+.

Yeah, 3K seems to be the average.

Top 80th percentile: 1000 USD

Top 95th percentile: 4500 USD

You can get a PC that will run 2021 AAA games on ultra/60fps/1080p for probably 1500 USD. The massive jump comes, really, from 2K/4K gaming. Like a thousand-dollar plateau, for just the GPU and Monitor alone.

I'll go ahead and add that it will immediately start depreciating over the coming year and probably lose 800$ in value over that time due to the nature of cpu and gpu advancement. You're paying upwards of hundreds more on both for very little performance difference among the peak cards and processors, especially early on in the life cycle. It's better to get something cheaper with headroom to upgrade when the card prices fall.

Fun fact: You can get a last-gen top-of-the-line GPU (2070 Super, 2080, etc) for far, far less than $1000. Granted it will be 2nd-hand (because they are out-of-production at this point, or at least greatly diminished production). It's only the new product line, the 3070 and 3080, that are being scalped at double MSRP.

Funner fact: Less than 3 years ago, the 1080Ti was thought of to be the epitome of PC gaming. And the hivemind basically treats it like a stinking dog turd at this point. They can be had for 300-400 on the 2ndhand market, and will run 2021 AAA games on high at 1080/60.

I mean I have a Ryzen 3600 and I still haven't found games to throw at it to find my performance maximum. I guess I'll get cyberpunk soon to really put it through its paces.

Agreed 100%

My computer is pretty good. I could play doom eternal just fine and I edit 4k videos on it but it probably only cost upwards of $750.

I thought that some of the more powerful 2000 series were being scalped too.

Yeah I think games are typically winding down the 'peak graphics ermahgerd' because there isn't a market for those titles anymore; there are far too few people who have the screens and power/memory for that.

Top of the line as in best of everything?

6k-10k if im spitballing.

If you mean just something that can run things on max for a few years then 4-5k

Assuming you can get everything without it being scalped to hell. Here's a rough estimate

CPU: i9-10900K - $499
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12A - $99
GPU: RTX 3080 - $699
Motherboard: Z490 Gaming Plus - $169
RAM: 16GB - $75
Storage: 1TB SSD - $100
Power Supply: 750W 80+ Gold - $100
Case: Preference - $70
Windows Activation - $108

Total: $1,924

This is without a keyboard, mouse or monitor. Of course, prices will vary slightly if you go AMD instead of Intel/Nvidia. But not by much.

With scalped prices though, you'll easily surpass $3,000. And that's pretty much all you'll find right now.
