Asylum was closer to the TAS and Gothic atmosphere. City was more Nolan and had a Terminator 2 blue tint to it.

the grapple-flying was dumb, open world detracted from the experience rather than added to it and villains weren't as interesting

I agree. I had more fun playing City, it was a bit more smooth to play and I liked the atmosphere moreso than Asylum's. But my friend likes Asylum better just because of its atmosphere, the more 'cartoony' stuff he calls it.
