Current Events > Anyone not a fan of KH anymore?

(This is not a thread hating on the series.)

I used to love the series as teenager as I thought the characters were super cool and even followed the plot.
Now I feel it's all just too convoluted.

Though it did influence my taste in RPGs since I enjoy action RPGs way more than turn based ones.

I like to pretend the series ended with KH2 because it actually had a satisfying enough ending to not need sequels. I actually don't have any interest in revisiting the series at this point. Little kid me thought it was cool back when I used to be the target audience, but now I just think of it as this ridiculous crossover fanfiction with a budget, and while I do love a good ridiculous game, I'm just not invested in KH's brand of ridiculous anymore.

It also didn't help that too many plot critical games were spread out across too many systems, and the thought of getting caught up all at once now that they're all readily available just sounds too exhausting to me.

KH3 is still fun in terms of combat but thats it. the gummi ships sucked in 3 and the story is the worst its ever been.

I still go back and play 1 & 2 and find them enjoyable.

3 was underwhelming.

I was on board with mostly everything they released up until KH3 came out, except the mobile gacha game and all the crap surrounding it. But I was still hopeful that the mainline games would keep being good. ...And then KH3 happened. Now I don't care at all anymore.

I can still go back and have fun playing 1, 2, BbS, and DDD though.

Didn't help that I'm no longer the target demographic for disney movies that would be referenced in the game.

Once I realized that all those spinoff games I'd been ignoring weren't intended to be spinoffs at all, my enthusiasm for KH3 plummeted. Good reviews of KH3 might have turned it around, but based on everything I've heard it embodies exactly the direction I was afraid the series was taking when KH2 started going too far up its own ass.

I'm the only one here that likes KH3, probably. The expectations leading up to release were so unimaginably high it was never going to live up to them.

I like it too and I agree. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as KH1, 2, or BBS. I think it sits above 3D's but not 358/2 Days.

We are both in that same boat. I still enjoy the games and love it. I plan to buy the rhythm game when it goes on sale.

Excited for how 4 will look.

Nah. Less interested since 3, but I still like the series alright, and will probably get the next entry that actually plays like an arpg.

Still really like 1 & 2. I can't bring myself to finish 3. Target audience isn't a big issue for me, my family and I love going to Disney. For me it just comes down to not being happy about the story. It was bad enough that you really kinda needed to play Chain of Memories to understand what was happening at the beginning of 2, but the amount of spin-offs you need to play now just to sorta make sense of the story is just.... no. You'd think at some point someone would have said "Gee, this is getting a little complicated for just wanting to kidnap some princess's and steal their hearts. Maybe we should scale this back a bit?" But nah, they just let Nomura do whatever idea he came up with while tripping on whatever he was on.

I barely played any of the spin-offs to completion and had no trouble with 3 tbh.

After FFXV and knowing how Square Enix is, I had pretty low expectations for KH3. Or at least *reasonable* expectations. I'd say it's not even a matter of expectations, it's just a matter of them releasing a wholly lackluster game. The story was awful, the difficulty was non-existent even on Proud, and the gameplay itself was only alright.
