All the other Straw Hats have been beautifully fleshed out and have undergone serious growth, physically and mentally, but Brook is kind of just this one note-gag character and it's a bit of a shame.

I feel like Oda just wanted a cool skeleton on the crew but hasn't figured out what to do with him yet. Even his "tragic" backstory is played for laughs, when the rest of the crew has a genuinely sad tale to look back on.

Brook is an old man. Older people tend not to grow as much as youngins. Also his character development happened in the past really. The crippling loneliness being stranded on a ghost ship for decades with all his friend's corpses made him the way he is now.

he's a main character, he should have some on-screen development.

There's still some backstory they have to reveal about Brook. What I'm specifically wondering about is his knowledge of three-eyed people.

I feel like Zorro is actually the Strawhat who needs more depth. Hes been with Luffy from the very beginning but hes never had an arc that was dedicated to him and helping him develop. We know that the girl who was his rival died when he was a kid but thats literally all that we know about his back story. Hes always learning new sword skills but he hasnt really changed as a person much since he joined the crew

I get the feeling that he's going to get more character stuff in Wano

All the Strawhats need development.

Right now it's just Luffy, Luffy, Luffy.

It's not just Luffy.

Zoro got a huge powerup when he got Enma in Wano
Sanji got a powerup when he was given the Germa suit (can't remember what it's called)

I get what you mean but he's still the most subtle of the Straw Hats, I feel. It's quite hard to tell what he's thinking sometimes. He sways from demonic to loyal to comic relief all in the same expression. Sometimes he seems cold and other times he's about to cry. I like Zoro for that. He's not your typical Shonen "cool" type.

Fair, but I would say that

Sanji using a Germa 66 tool and not completely rejecting anything Vinsmoke-related is an example of character development.
Luffy hasn't really had much character development post time skip unless I'm mistaken. Him dealing with his grief of Ace's death is character development, but it has mostly been powerups for Luffy since then.

This also makes me sad but damn can you imagine how long this would take now, and how boring some of those fights would be. Who wants to see Robin fight anyway?

To be honest I'd just rather each straw hat contribute in a way that only they can. Like I used to love it when sanji would disappear near the end of an arc and then just as they're in big trouble he'd reappear having engineered some way out of their predicament behind the scenes

i want to see robin fight because she hasn't had one since skypiea, and without a fight her mastery over her powers is almost useless (ignoring dressrosa, which was the only meaningful display)

I do....a lot actually. Same goes for chopper, nami, and usopp. The entire crew being able to fight and win their own battles was actually one of the main reasons that I got hooked on one piece compared to other shonen way back when. *I got into the series when the anime was just getting to the water 7 stuff...back when damn near the entire crew was fighting at enies lobby and getting at least a chapter or two for their own battles.....it was amazing, =( *

I don't know, I thought Brook had the most tragic backstory, with what happened to his crew and how long he was trapped on Thriller Bark. It just doesn't come up much because he's older and those memories are distant relative to other character's backstories.

I think he's recently took Sanji's old position as the one who goes off on his own. Back before Thriller Bark, Sanji would end up on his own quite a bit and end up, like as Mr. Prince in Alabasta and closing the gates at Enies Lobby. Brook in Whole Cake Island did the same when he was getting the Poneglyph sketch from Big Mom and breaking the portrait at the wedding.

raises hand

Either way, I think we have some hope now, considering we just had a chapter where we got quite a long scene explaining how even if Big Mom and Kaido go down, the PirateMinkNinjaSamurai alliance can't win unless they take down the executives too

Robins power is kind of OP so she cant really have legit fight scenes like everyone else. Thats why all her fights end in 5 seconds. I guess Oda could create an enemy with a DF power that prevents them from being touched by anything

Zoro doesn't need to develop. He's already exactly who he needs to be. He just needs to git gud so he can murder Shiryu after Shiryu off-panels Mihawk
