I have no fucking idea what he is even talking about but I've lately been watching this show Forged in Fire where weaponsmiths compete in making weapons, and in the latest episode I saw, they had to make these fucking badass Native American War Clubs with blades built in and holy shit I thought I knew a bunch about weapons but I had never heard of these. They were badass. For some reason that I cannot place, this topic reminded me of that.

To exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States, and to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;

Note that there's an upper limit, not a lower one. Contracting the "district" to just the actual government parts would be completely fine.
It's supposedly happened before, when the Virginia bits of the square were reclaimed during the civil war.

season 7 or 8? (I'm like 2-3 episodes into season 7). I was kinda hoping to see an Inyamkapemni (probably butchered the spelling there) but I'm not surprised they haven't done that because iirc it's strictly wooden, but outside the scope of the show. I learned about those from Deadliest Warrior years ago and I was like "that's a cool ass weapon and I fucking love the name." Still, I love the more exotic weapons, the katars, the fancy and intricate African and Chinese weapons, etc. Most of the lesser known Japanese weapons... like I was thrilled when they did the Naginata (fuck you, The League for pronouncing it wrong >_>) and even more so the No-Dachi. I've still got a good 35ish episodes left until the current season and I try not to spoil the finale weapons for myself. I am always impressed though when they throw curveballs in rounds 1 and 2 and this War Club was probably the craziest one for that except maybe their outdoor Coal Forge episodes.

Those states don't want dc to be apart of it. Also it wouldn't incorporate the federal buildings, so this weird idea of purity wouldn't even be an issue.

DC not having legit representation has always agitated me ever since I knew it was a thing.

I get WHY there's opposition (if it did, it would be guaranteed Democrat, although blocking it on those grounds alone is really petty given how much it flies in the face of the principles of government) but I can't believe people won't set aside party biases long enough to leave so many people unrepresented.

Republicans are super anti-democracy, so the more people they can suppress from power the better for them.

Unfortunately for them time is against them. Boomers are dying out and cities/suburbs are outgrowing rural.

Thats so BS. They are the only ones fighting for voting rights. Making sure people have IDs to vote for. Instance.

One proposal I heard was ceding the city of DC to Maryland and only leaving the buildings and land associated with the federal government administration as federal property.

But that's too dramatic. I think DC has a right to remain as it is and simply get the representation it deserves. It's not a state but legislative representation is a right all American citizens are entitled to.

I...are you being serious? Republicans close down places to GET IDs, want to further limit absentee mailings, and say greeter people voting is bad because it leads to "voter dilution "
