They are both liberal as they support free market capitalism, conservatives are just more reactionary than liberals who are more open to progress in some aspects of society (religion & science for example). Both believe in maintaining the current structure a ruling capitalist class and a capitalist state. Generously, liberals tend to want to ease some of the less pleasant extremes of capitalism, whereas conservatives tend to oppose things like welfare or tax increases.
