One of the things I really liked was this.

"We can't tell you who we are. Or where we live. It's too risky, and we've got to be careful. Really careful. So we don't trust anyone. Because if they find us... well, we just won't let them find us. The thing you should know is that everyone is in really big trouble. Yeah. Even you."

Then at book 51 it changes to this.

"Here's the deal these days: They know exactly who we are. They know exactly where we live. We've got a few secrets left, and we're gonna use them. But just know that the end is coming. And we don't know how much longer we can do this. How much longer can we fight. What about you? Where will you be when it ends? Think about it. Think hard. Because the countdown has already begun..."

There is a such a potent viral marketing campaign for a film here if they don't cheesedick the whole thing

It's a property begging for adaptation

The end of the series is basically "COMMIT WAR CRIMES FOR MORE TIME ON THE CLOCK" as the Animorphs struggle to hold off the Yeerks in open warfare long enough for the Andalite fleet to arrive.

And Jake takes the burden for that. Rachel, and Tobias as well. Ax is treated like a hero. Cassie never has to become the end all be all bad guy. Marco is marco.

Damn what a great series lol

Both, although thats partly because so much of Animorphs was ghostwritten. The concept of Everworld was cooler to me, though, because it blended high fantasy with science fiction elements.

How bout that 5 minute overview? :D

Of course I can wiki it but from fan to fan I think it would help more. Doesn't have to be an epic, I'm sure the first book is straight forward

The basic premise is: a bunch of high school kids get pulled into an alternate dimension called Everworld where all of the old world gods exist, having left the original world behind. The whole world basically exists as a giant patchwork of zones that are controlled by different pantheons that border each other (so theres a Greek area and a Norse area and a Roman area, an Aztec area, Egyptian etc.) and these are populated by humans that the gods brought with them when they left the real world. There are also alien gods from other planets/dimensions who exist there as well. The kids have to survive and find/rescue their classmate who is a witch in order to try to get back to the real world. There are huge battles between different forces, particularly between the human gods and an alien god named Ka Anor who wants to eat all the other gods.

Its seriously good, and its only like 12 books? The characters are all very well fleshed out, too - its sort of similar to Animorphs where each book is narrated by a different character. Theres the leader guy who is Jewish and suffers from a hero complex, the Marco-esque comic relief guy who is kind of a shithead, a black guy who is super smart and scientifically knowledgeable but has crippling OCD, a girl who is a devout Catholic and sort of perfect student type popular personality, and the witch, who is creepy and manipulative.

Bad news, it appears KA and her husband have left the Animorphs movie saying due to creative differences back in Oct. 2020, apparently they were not being included enough in the production process.

Well there goes my faith in the movie, the creators should be giving the most input and the people making the movie should be asking them is this correct ?.

Most of them die. Cassie survives for sure, and maybe 1 or 2 of the others. It's implied Jake might survive.

How specific do we need to get lol?

They run into a being out in space (Jake, Marco and Tobias) while looking for Ax. It's consumed him like The Thing into some master organism. It's on its way to becoming this deity level power. They don't have the weapons to fight against the ship it's in, the Blade Ship. Marco had told Jake he would only follow him if he promised to be 'reckless and ruthless' like he was during the time of the war. Jake aknowledges this, smiles in a way that reminds them of Rachel(the animorph Jake essentially sacrificed to win the war, his own cousin) and tells them to ram the blade ship. It's a recall back to when Elfangor gave the same order, implying in some way Jake may have survived.

From what I remember they were pretty short, like less than an hour per book. And yeah there's 54 main books, and then there's maybe like 10-20 'spin-off' books, some that fill in backstory for certain characters, and then there are the Megamorph books that are longer books where the perspective jumps between the characters instead of focusing on one character like the main books typically do.

a little longer than goosebumps. Those were like 120 pages while animorphs are more like 150-180. First book took me 2 hours but Im a slow reader and its one of the longer ones. And thanks to kindle time I learned that there are books I read with chapters longer than an animorphs book.

Bump so good topic doesn't die.

I'm on book 7.

They were offered an out by the Ellimist. Haven't read this one before. The discussion about whether they should take his offer to save some humans and set them up on a new planet or continuing their fight despite the Ellimist telling them they will eventually lose is pretty deep.

I'm up to book 8 in my read-through.

Completely forgot about Ax meeting Marco's father.

Marco had warned me to say nothing to his father but "yes" and "no."
"No," I said to Marco's father.
"I'm Marco's dad. Are you a friend of his?"
"Yes."
"What's your name?"
"No," I answered.
"Your name is 'No'?"
"Yes."
"That's an unusual name, isn't it?"
"No."
"It's not?"
"Yes."
"Yes, it's not an unusual name?"
"No."
"Now I'm totally confused."
"Yes."
Marco's father stared at me. Then, in a loud voice he yelled, "Hey, Marco? Marco? Would you . . . um . . . your friend is here. Your friend 'No' is here."
"No," I said.
"Yes, that's what I said."

Ax's awkwardness trying to interact with human culture is always one of my favorite character traits. I still sometimes use his "joke" from book 23:

Tobias: <Hey, Ax-man, what's up?>

Ax: <Up is the opposite of down. Although, of course, those terms are meaningless outside the context of a distinct, localized gravity field.>

Tobias: <Ooookay.>

Ax: <Was that funny? I was attempting a joke.>

Tobias: <Ah. Well... I'm probably not the guy to ask,> I said evasively.

Tobias and Ax are clearly the two most interesting characters, the one thing that always disappointed me is they only got to narrate half as often as the others.

Book 18. Ax is in torment because Visser Three morphed a bird from the Andalite world. He assumes Visser Three has been there, but surely the obvious explanation is that Alloran acquired it as a prince before he was enslaved.

Seems pretty obvious to me. Maybe it'll be cleared up as the book goes on, but either way it seems like a continuity problem.

No he seems to be right. Most andalites dont acquire animals at all, in later books Ax talks about the Animorphs actually using morphing far better than the andalites ever did.

Yeah, Andalite Chronicles was great. I think I've now read past most of the ones I read as a kid. The first one I owned was The Android and I must've read that a hundred times when I was little.

The only others I remember reading are the one in the alternate future where Cassie is a ruthless badass. One where Cassie has a Yeerk prisoner(?), the battle against the Howlers and one of the David books.

Makes me think there's still a hell of a lot I've never read and I'm psyched for it.

Book 19 is important because it creates a faction of yeerks that are against enslavement, bash Cassie all you want but she was the only character who could make this happen.

Cassie also prevents the group from being straight up no better then the monsters they fight for a long time. The problem is that as the war drags on and they continue to have more stakes to worry about.
