The different masks are pretty cool and when you finally get deity link it feels rewarding. The dungeons are great as well as bosses. What's not to like?

I loved the dark, almost gothic feel and most of the gameplay, but hated the 3 day mechanic.

Reminder that they are both equally Zelda games because theres no official quantitative metric that makes something a Zelda game beyond having The Legend of Zelda in the title.

I liked all the extra sidequests way more than all the dungeons in OoT. Learning everyone's schedules and the interactions between events was really cool. Also transformation masks were rad.

That so wrong its hilarious. Zelda games are based around having a series of dungeons with separate treasures and other rewards. BotW has 4 dungeons that can be done in any order OR just completely ignored. The formula just isnt there.

Just to complete the game, not really. Basically everything mandatory can be done any time of any day. Other than like getting Epona and doing the graveyard in Ikana, which you have to visit on a particular night IIRC. And of course actually ascending the clock tower.

Getting that strict into what's supposed to be a Zelda game is incredibly limiting.

To me, a Zelda game is exploration, dungeon-traversing, and puzzle-solving. It doesn't need to follow anything stricter than that because then things get stale.

Majoras Mask being as good at is is a wonder and everyone on that development team deserves a fucking medal. They were given a very short development cycle to make a video game in a prestige series and managed to not only find a way to make reused assets intriguing but also cram the game full of interesting new shit.

I will never not find it fascinating how thickly crammed the world is with interesting stuff despite the simplistic layouts, or how much mileage they got out of setting and good atmosphere and letting stuff Ocarina mostly ignored like dialogue and side content do the heavy lifting. Most of that was done out of necessity but it was executed so well its actually well disguised

I was gonna question the Ikana graveyard, but then it came to me that it's part of a series of events needed to get the Mirror Shield.

Other than top-tier atmosphere and story, MM is a literal pile of ass. Absolutely no part of the experience is fun. It's tedious, the majority of the masks are one-and-done, and it has some of the worst dungeons in the series. Worst is the god-awful 3 day cycle resetting everything.

I cant really think of any part of MM that is tedious outside of great bay not being very well designed in general. Its incredibly easy to make it so that you dont have to do large amounts of content ever again after a reset. Every item, song, and owl statue serves as a way to save time and skip large amounts of overworld questing and parts of dungeons.

and sure a a bunch of masks are basically puzzle pieces that have one purpose but the fun is mainly in collecting them. Id rather have that than something like, say, Twilight Princess where almost all of the items in the game get heavily used it n whatever dungeon theyre from and then maybe once or twice ever again after you leave it. Those arent even fun to collect
