I personally find this episode to be a bit weak, but Alfred Molina as the Multi-bear is great, and I love that training montage song, "Keep on shaving that hairy uncle!"

I did not recognize the voice, cool. Multibear and the funny song were highlights yeah. Glad it wasn't just me finding this one a bit undercooked compared to the last few. Not actually bad mind, I just already have higher expectations for this show.

the type of code-breaking that has been used thus far is a Caesar cipher.

Ah, I didn't connect that. I guess that's an announcement of the new cipher?

Episode 7 - Double Dipper

Here we go, this makes up for last episode big time. I was a bit worried a Dipper centric episode might not be as funny, but no, he had plenty of great lines in this one. The moment to moment dialogue, the incidental lines, in this show in general they're top class. Really a sign of scripts that they go with a fine tooth comb looking for places to add extra wit.

In this episode Grunkle Stan wants to throw a party at the Mystery Shack to make some money from kids, and I imagine Gravity Falls isn't exactly swimming in hangouts so it seems to have gone off at least somewhat well, despite some of the people there wanting to escape (And not being able to because there's a 15 dollar exit fee and they only have 15 dollars).

Dipper agrees to man the ticket stand because he figures he'll get to spend the entire evening with his crush Wendy, and he has a plan, or one of those "over complicated list things" as Mabel puts it. When the two are trying to make copies, they discover the old copier Stan has can produce copies of living things for some reason, and I was all "wow, the paranormal thing even before the opening credits."

When the party gets down Mabel makes friends with some unpopular kids, one of who I recognized as being Niki Yang, so that was awesome. I keep seeing BMO.. lol. Mabel ends up in a dance contest against a popular kid named Pacifica Northwest, which is, that is quite a name. Dipper isn't having as much fun, especially when Wendy just ditches her post and Grunkle Stan is clearly content with only forcing Dipper to stay out there alone. Thinking quick, he decided to cause his very own little sorcerer's apprentice gag by making a copy of himself, which of course eventually leads to multiple copies. But hey, they promised they wouldn't turn on each other and he even names the first copy Tyrone, a name he wished he had!

But yeah, "they all know this was coming" and after Dipper actually ends up talking to her like a normal person (Instead of just doing it because it was step 9 of the plan) he decides to ditch the plan; despite the fact the tons of Dipper copies were actually super cooperative with the plan and not at all fighting amongst themselves..but no, that really screws with all their little anal retentive brains and chaos breaks out, leading to Dipper and Tyrone as the only survivors (Since water ruins them and he sets off the fire sprinkles with a popper toy).

The two reconcile when Wendy ends up spending time with Robby, the guy from the convenience store episode, and Tyrone admits they should just be natural and not have overly complicated plans.. and they share a Pitt Soda toast, which I could tell was a bad idea when they first proposed it, but they didn't realize until the liquid in the soda finishes him off, oops.

Mabel barely loses the dance contest but gains some friends; surprisingly, I found this to actually be the less exciting subplot. Mabel's grin not leaving her face as she announces "She's going down" and generally just being Mabel was nice, but the plot was unusually predictable for GF, ooh nerds vs popular kids, be still my beating heart. Dang good thing the A plot was hilarious.

Funny bits: Paper Jam Dipper was amazing and kind of sad, poor guy didn't fit in and accepted his fate (Kind of wonder what he was saying the whole time, if only we had subtitles.) Don't Start Unbelieving is certainly a parody of Journey and certainly had some lyrics that were a thing. And distracting Soos with the dot was hilarious "The dot does not disappoint" and "He's gonna get tired of that thing eventually" followed by "NEVER!" from offscreen, that was a comedy highlight. And him finally finding the right whimsical sound effect in the ending. Other bits I liked was the "Dipper Classic", faking the 7 on his hat, "Quit hitting myself"...And that unusual Big Dipper birthmark, but now I wonder what his real name is... one final note, guess Wendy's (Kind of?) boyfriend was faking not remembering Dipper harsh, I thought he'd at least warmed up with the others enough to be like "oh hi" but guess not, geez.. Least we got a funnier second version of Dipper's dream sequence where Wendy kicked him in the nuts? Guy should maybe listen to himself about being too young for her.

All in all, finally, Dipper is funny. Woot. I'd be up for seeing Mabel's new friends again in a funnier plot.

My step-brother and I would constantly turn to each other and say Tyrone like Dipper does in that episode.

Thanks for the continued long write ups btw, they are fantastic. And I am unreasonably hyped for your next couple episodes :D

I personally love the moment where they simultaneously point at their foreheads going "Yeahhhh...". It's just a scene that always comes to mind for some reason.
