When I was in highschool I was on the guy side. After being married and watching the movie again, I could see from the girls perspective. I'm glad the movie outright in the beginning said this was not a romance movie. I've been in the guys shoes before of only remembering the good parts of the relationships and conveniently ignoring the parts that didn't work out.

Its not like Summer is completely free of issue here, but the guy was the one who was explicitly told there wasn't a future there and kept pushing, because thats' what like, other movies suggest.

And that toxic behaviour by Joseph Gordon Levitt's character is the important thing the TC is trying to address here.

Same exact thing happened to me. Not that the guy is a complete jerk or completely wrong, but his communication was shit, and he blinded himself out of sheer desire.

I mean, having sex with him isnt wise, but she made her intentions clear and he went with it anyway, probably with the falsehood that shed change her mind. He is at fault, and though she arguably should have not taken things further, she made her intentions known and isnt responsible for his feelings. People who dont want relationships should still be able to have intimacy and sex with other people - though yes, with partners who feel the same way would make it more kosher.

Thats why i said it's both of their faults. He knew what she wanted and she knew what he wanted. Instead of saying "hey, we both know this isnt going to work" they both went along with it and it ended how it did.

I just don't think that this is the movie for incels to watch because neither of them were in the right.
