I was going to ask what the hell kind of parties you go to, but that makes sense. Anyway, don't call it a LAN party, just call it a LAN gathering.

The problem is how broad it is and what could trigger a response. Their rules state 16 people is a hard cap but for any reason they deem they can call something a "party" and issue reprisals. I have no interest in testing their limits when they seem so vitriolic towards the idea of doing anything resembling "partying".

I'm not inviting a lot of people but a LAN party would come with a lot of equipment. People see us carrying in tables, chairs, PC hardware, etc. and it would exude an image of being something more than it is.

We're not even planning it for anytime in the near future. It's at least a Q2 project but AirBnB has an indefinite ban on it and the wording on the ban seems like they're upset for reasons more than encouraging bad behavior in a pandemic. They seem like they're sick of being responsible for encouraging parties in communities that don't want them.

So how about SHUT THE HELL UP AND GET OUT OF MY TOPIC.

I don't think they're going to rescind it. The ban only seems positive for managing the people who rent their offerings. Less administrative headaches and makes it easier to filter out desirable properties.

Frankly I'm close to just dropping the idea. AirBnB was the last concept I had and I have no interest in pushing their buttons.

They said the rationale is to keep people safe during the pandemic but they also went through a more exhaustive list of reasons that parties have given them problems in the past. That's why I think the ban isn't necessarily about preventing pandemic spread. Reading between the lines suggests they were looking a way to cut off attempts to use properties to party and the pandemic gives them the leverage to do so.

There's a pandemic going on. I've only left the house once since March. You will survive. People have it worse. If you and more people stop being selfish we will get out of this sooner. It should have ended already in the first place

Well neither am I, I'm just bitching loudly about my inability to do so.

Although, as I said, I think there's more to AirBnB's motivations that make me think they're trying to curtail the use of their platform in general, not just as a pandemic response. I wouldn't close my account if I felt like they were exclusively cracking down as a matter of pandemic response.
