It's not very "diverse" if only some people have to go to diversity training.

You don't, but your company needs to tell you.

They could just allow "diverse people" to tell people they're being horrible when they're being horrible, but that would destroy the illusion of professionalism that allows higher ups to keep gaslighting the pee-ons.

My job makes us do them and they are pretty cringy but I could see why corporate would make us take classes like that.

Im the fucking diversity.

It doesn't really matter.

As a business owner I'll give a take on this, coming from a business perspective.

The reason diversity training exists and their approach to it is going to vary, some companies may believe in progressive causes and want a progressive workplace, also HR departments tended to get a lot of complaints.

Most companies want a functioning team who isn't getting bogged down in in-fighting. There is potential litigation against the company they have to worry about, and also the amount of time HR has to spend dealing with complaints and disciplinary procedures.

You, as someone within a minority group recieving the same diversity training isn't stupid if you think about it from the companies perspective.

For one, while you might be within a minority group, there are multiple groups who have protections. Being part of one minority group does not mean that someone accepts other minority groups and cannot be guilty of breaching another groups rights.

Secondly, there is an issue of knowing ones rights. Being a part of a minority group does not mean that one is going to know all of their rights, what the companies procedures are, and just to know that the company has your back should you face workplace discrimination.

Thirdly, it makes it much easier to just kick someone out on their ear if they committed an offence. They can't really claim that they were not informed if they've had the training.

Hmmm... that can be argued both ways with equal affect. Diversity training sees minority groups as a liability, diversity training sees people who have prejudice attitudes as a liability. Both work, which it is will depend on the beliefs of the people running the company, and they will be varied.

As for increasing productivity, this is one of those things people say, but if shes running a business, or finds herself running a business, shes going to want that too. Most people also don't want to be dealing with disruptive, toxic individuals destroying a teams morale. Well, some companies seem fine with it, but many don't.
