Despite massive spike of diffulcuties in some areas, I have manage to beat the main stories of these 3 games on my 2DS

Mario 3D land
Super mario brothers 2
Shantae and pirate's curse

I played the oldies megaman games and was surprised how impossible it was even in the first level.

I havent played metroidvania games yet, I believe.

I probably would've like it.

Yeh if the genre is new to you youll find the olden classics like Magaman to be much harder.
mid you havent played them youre gunna wanna play a few MAIN series:

mario
mega man
banjo

i suggest also trying and seeing what kinds you prefer.

2D side scrollers (super Mario bros, mega man)
3D worlds that are Linear (crash bandicoot)
3D open world collectathons (banjo, Mario, yooka laylee)

then we have the best sub genre of all - precision platformers

games like:

celeste
super meat boy
the end is nigh
1001 spikes

The enemies respawn in megaman makes me feels on edge.
