Visually it was a feast. In all other ways it was olestra. It tasted ok at first but then there was the greasy discharge that ruined everything.

I mean, the original is one of my very favorite movies, and I dont even have a problem with this statement; up until Harrison Ford shows up, Id even agree myself. It introduces a lot of really cool new concepts, while further exploring and expanding on a lot of the same ideas of the original. Its a fantastic sequel, even if it cant maintain the same momentum for the entire runtime.

I was surprised by how 'dry' the original felt and I felt like the entire last third left a lot to desire. Like Roy going all animalistic was kind of dumb.

Fair enough I can see what you're saying. The sequel was definitely good. I just felt like I preferred the simplicity of the first film a bit more.

Pretty much how I feel. Outside of the set design, I wasn't a big fan of the original. 2049 took what the original was trying to do and ran with it.

When Harrison Ford showed up I was like holy shit, was not expecting it to be a true and proper sequel.

The way they teased the reveal with Ryan Gosling being a born replicant or not was so sneaky. At first I was like, no way it's him, obviously not, but then as the movie went on I was like oh shit could it actually be him? Then felt that same disappointment as Gosling himself when it turned out nope, he was just another replicant same as the rest.

So yeah I liked it. Wouldn't consider myself a fan of these movies, but they were a good watch. First one was a lot weirder/more abstract and made less sense. Especially since there's so many versions out there.

I'm not a fan of the original either but that final scene where after everything that happens, he still saves harrison ford from that ledge and they just sit there really got to me. It was a... bizarrely compassionate moment and in that moment you see that they just wanted to live.

Plus, that monologue always makes me think "that could have been a way better movie than what we got" and I usually love detective noir movies.

Denis Villeneuve is the best new film maker of the millennium. He's only made one movie I disliked (Prisoners).

It's an amazing movie. Stunning in every way. Visually, it's probably the best movie I've ever seen. The story is fantastic. Even the goddamn sound is perfect.
As much as I adore the original, this one is even better.

Yeah, the first movie has god-like aesthetics and a great soundtrack but I oddly didn't like the rest of it. And I agree that 2049 felt like it executed what the first movie was trying to do way better.
