You probably didn't get a bad Mobo. Those things have the lowest failure rate and while they are sometimes extremely rarely DOA they won't burn out your chip unless they're damaged in some way.

How do you know the CPU is dead? It's also possible you might've overtightened something and damaged the mobo

Yeah if he knows his shit then you just got super unlucky. I got super paranoid about installing my CPU, but things went fine. CPUs are infamous for being delicate as shit
