FF8 May have won a few BEST categories, but its infamous plot twist is not one of them. Taking 61% of the votes, the worst plot twist in the history of Final Fantasy goes to Final Fantasy 8.

FF7 - Healing Wind, which I contend is the reason people cared so much about Aeris dying. The game gives you 1 charge of Cure+All in the game, and AoE heals are amazing, so then they also hand you a high magic character which yet more AoE healing and suddenly she's a staple to the crew much like Peach in SMRPG. So much that when spoiler occurs, it actually affects your party. If Aeris' limit break was just a bunch of generic nonsense like Cid, the odds of her being a staple would be much lower.

i think people cared because they cared. it wasn't the first video game death, but probably the first one a lot of people were exposed to. I heard people urge you to get great gospel, but that's because a lot of people will never even see the limit break. so more of a fomo thing, not so much you're going to miss having the limit.

did you have healing issues if aeris wasn't in your party? you get multiple all materia. 2 before you ever leave midgar. you can buy them from fort condor after you get the highwind for 20k. you find a few more later in the game. and speaking of later in the game, w item trick. i was never really hurting for healing in ff7. maybe if i did a low level run i'd value healing wind more.

Its more of a Holy shit, that just happened! neat surprise when any of them come out, but they arent exactly visually impressive. Most of them are just the characters jumping at the opponent and attacking.

Sabins blitz, Cyans Bushido, and Edgars tools are all more impressive looking.

Wakka's max Attack Reels should at least get mention for sheer power: with max stats and Break Damage Limit it does just shy of 1.2 million damage, which at one point was the most powerful attack in the franchise (don't know if anything in 13 or later eclipsed it though).

I know Zell's a pretty hated character 'round these parts, but My Final Heaven deserves mention because of how cool this was in 1999 (plus the Duel mechanic in general is pretty fun):

FFVII - Dolphin Blow, I just think it's neat.
FFVIII - Degenerator. Quistis' limits are pretty broken in general but this one makes what gring you want much easier. Also, see https://www.deviantart.com/nebezial/art/he-can-still-hear-it-s-screams-523476021
FFVIII - Quick Shot. Quick Shot has a huge damage cap, fast animation, and deals great damage throughout the game. When you've expended all your ammo, Armor and Hyper makes great back ups. Collecting ammo is one of the longest grinds in the game, but was one of few FF grinds I found rewarding.

Zell would be here in 4th. Final Heaven has an awesome animation and Beat Rush combo is the best consistant damage (beats Squall on average, IIRC) and available super early. Really fun system, but long animations.

What I love about Renzokuken in general is the fact that it adapts to certain enemies and changes based on that.

My favorite is against Bahamut. The way he runs around his body slashing different parts is just awesome, I don't think there are many limit breaks in the other games that adapt to enemies like that.

Wait I need to give Vivi's Trance a shout out because that was the reason I beat FF9 the first time. He was my last man standing, had low hp, all status effects then got in Trance and I could use him again and I nuked the final boss and won the game.
