You could get an i5 10600k instead, not sure how the price compares but that's basically Intel's (slightly newer) competitor

Generally-speaking almost everything is GPU limited at 4K, and most things at 1440p as well (especially with a 3070).

CPU is way overrated for gaming unless you're into super high frame rates at 1080p (and that is legitimately, admittedly, a real thing)

Go for a B550 instead of a B450 motherboard in case you want to ever upgrade your CPU. The B450 isn't compatible with the new Ryzen processors. B550 also typically has PCIE 4.0 and better m.2 slots.

Also try and get a gold certified PSU that's modular. What you have there is going to be a mess as far as cable management goes and that can have somewhat of an effect on your temperatures.

500 gb of storage isn't enough also. Dump that SSD and get an M.2 nVME SSD. I personally use the Samsung Evo plus series and it's fantastic. Pair that with a 3tb HDD to dump your pictures and games that don't need as fast loading into it and you're golden. It'll be more expensive but honestly if you're going to buy a SATA SSD at all then you might as well spring for at least 1TB of space.

And Get RAM that's frequency matches your CPU. A Ryzen 5 3600 should be paired with 3600 speed RAM. You can get Corsair Vengeance or Ripjaw DDR4 Ram sticks for the same price as what you have there.

Awesome info @FabIe . Ill probably follow that to a T.

Anything else I should look into? Like a specific type of monitor?

and what am I looking at with a 3070 in terms of games?

thanks

Ryzen is still better in terms of price to performance.

Specifically anything with a 144hz refresh rate. With a 3070 you should be able to handle 1080p-4k. From what I've read, 1440p 144hz refresh with good HDR is that sweet spot. No specific brands but if you search within those parameters you should find something good.

And a 3070 should run literally anything out right now with ultra graphics at a steady 60+fps. I get 60+ in most games with a Radeon 5700XT which is comparable to a 2070 so you shoulf be able to tackle any game for the next several years.

Depends on what you want to accomplish. If you're gonna do media creation stuff, you can up a bit to like 3700x, which is what I have. If it's just for gaming, you can go 3600 and wouldn't even lose out on going lower

Yeah then 3600 will fulfill all your needs.

Basically 3500 or 3600 would both be plenty

Yeah man. I'm not interested in moving beyond 1080p. I'm happy with it. As long as I'm getting 144fps on the games I want them on.

MOBO, RAM, and a good ass fan are pretty difficult to cut prices down on. You can technically try for used stuff but obviously that comes with a lot of risks and probably a hell of a longer shipping. You can just get a $20 fan to reduce the noise, but that's about it. You definitely don't necessarily need an $80+ one. You also need a Windows key, which is another 100 bucks.

But if you were gonna make a computer, having an Xbox is pretty pointless imo lul. I'd almost recommend selling that for a bit more, but I don't think the Xbox goes for ridiculous 2nd hand price like the PS5 is, don't really know.

I didn't have much to spend, and I don't plan on OC'ing or anything, so I went with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. $30, cool enough and quiet, can't complain.
