Biden ran such an uniquely awful campaign it was a miracle he won at all. You certainly cannot blame those of us who thought Trump was going to win. (It's the year 2020. If anything it was dumb to NOT expect Trump to win.)

Anyone else with the Coronavirus boost would have destroyed Trump on election day. Bernie could have given us a god damned revolution. We need a god damned revolution.

But I'm not even convinced it's over. As noted, it's the year 2020. And November went by without a major disaster meaning December's going to cap the year off with something way worse than the previous disasters.....

I don't know about you, but the whole Supreme Court stealing the election for Trump thing that everyone seems to have forgotten was the play when they rushed in a replacement for RBG would VERY much fit that criteria for me.

It does say a lot that Biden did next to nothing and Trump was going hard as fuck with his campaign with rallies and everything else; and Trump still lost by several million votes

I think it's easy to understand why so many hate Trump, a narcissistic pathological liar. Self-proclaimed greatest president ever, greatest economy ever, greatest China trade deal idiocy. Praising Wikileaks profusely as candidate Trump then pretending he's "not into wikileaks" as president, while Assange rots in jail. Just a few examples of Trump's cognitive distortions.

Endgame sucks but nothing is particularly wrong in that post. Biden ran the classic losing democrat campaign of "the other guy is evil, dont you see????" without a platform to bring anyone any excitement except beating the bad guy. It never works unless you have a populist personality at the helm or if some sort of unique disaster is occurring.

Trump's coronavirus and the confusing mess of semi-shutdowns what what did him in. Considering the turnout in this election and how that generally is something massively in the favor of the democratic party, it should have been a landslide. Instead people split tickets and democrats actively lost ground everywhere except for the presidency. People were pissed at Trump over covid and didn't trust him to lead through the situation, but the Democrats completely flopped in terms of enthusiasm everywhere else after embracing the tepid establishment candidate. If covid never happened, I have no reason to believe the presidency would have changed hands

Are you not counting Michigan or Pennsylvania?

Certainly if you get to pick where and when you get to votes, you can interpret it as close, but the reality is that's generally not how elections work. Trump didn't only lose those states, he lost other states by a much larger margin. Meaning if he won ONE of those states, nothing changed.

Think of it like a Finals Series 4-2. You might be able to redistribute the points of the loser to say "well they only scored 10 less points over 2 games", but they also got blown out of 2 other games and narrowly won the games they won. It's not a close series. It's not a blowout, but it isn't close either.

yeah. imo, the true margin is the minimum number of votes needed to change the result. so, whichever group of states with enough EVs and the lowest total margin.

It was way closer than the polls were looking yet again. We were told it was going to be a big "Red Mirage" and then Biden would pull ahead but FL and OH weren't mirages--trump just killed it in turnout. Plus the dems' senate and house races looked bad. Ultimately Biden didn't have the same issues Clinton did in PA, MI and WI so he was able to withstand the surge. We were definitely very close to Trump winning a second term though despite losing the popular vote by 5-6 million.

It's insane how close some of these states get with many millions of voters.

Nah, we had been seeing record turnout even in the 2018 primaries. I figured if that pattern continued, Trump was going to lose.

Didn't think it would be that close, but when I saw that about 102 million people voted early, I figured Biden was going to win.

Either way, the mail-in ballots in those states(esp florida which was seen as slightly leaning biden) were not enough to overcome the strong election day turnout for Trump. When that became apparent a Trump win looked more and more likely.

It was the perfect storm for Trump to lose. Biden was a terrible candidate with zero charisma who was mainly relying on being Obama's VP and not being Trump. And those things wouldn't have been enough if not for the virus.

We should be happy he won if we wanted him to but he is damn lucky. We are damn lucky. Now I fear for 2024.

if PA and MI counted the mail-ins as they came in, the vast majority of the country would have been convinced Biden won before Election Day was over.

@Endgame Trump's lawsuits have been a massive falure. This is not going to the supreme court. Now there is one was Trump can still legally win. He needs thirty seven or so democratic party chosen electors to be faithless. It is that simple.

Yeah Biden won. However we still have one month of 2020 so the worst is yet to come.

I mean yeah that's the whole point--they don't and until that stuff started coming in there was no real way to know if the mail-in votes were strong enough to hold the Trump surge at bay. Thankfully it was. It was apparent late election night that Biden was going to win once those started getting counted and WI and MI went to Biden.
