What's the difference between dementia and alzhimers?

---
Kobe > LeBron. It's only internet stat nerds who think Lebron is better. Watch the games and stop calculating Lebron's PER with your wristwatch calculator.

Might you know by proxy some best ways to avoid it yourself?

Depends on which disease. For Alzheimers, there really isn't anything as far as I know, but being curious and learning as much as possible will make your dementia life easier becasue the more you "use the brain" the more connecetions your synapses make, making the illness a bit more bearable, but eventually you'll end up the same as anyone.

Vascular dementia is more preventable since it's caused by changes in the blood vessels in the brain, like strokes and other vascular diseases.

No, but I've done diffferent approaches to same scenarios several times, because that's how we can treat them, most of the time you fail the first many times before you find the best approach.

Alzheimers is a dementia disease. Dementia is just a term for people who can have a load of different dementia diseases, like Alzheimers, which is one of the most common ones.

Not really, but I have used music and singing in my work to make the work much easier.

I will never have a GF so the question does not apply.

I dunno, the only dementia in my family is is my grandmother on my dad's side had Alzheimers. If not that, I could get vascular dementia etc if I'm not careful with my health, but I've been better with my health, I drink way less and just a month ago my diabetes was downgraded to pre-diabetes, and I'm also losing weight so I'm trying to be healthy.

My grandma has dementia though shes currently in hospice. Before that my mom would try to care for her overnight these last few weeks and she said it was horrible. My grandma would wake up at all hours screaming at random stuff or having conversations with herself. How would you recommend a care giver like my mom handle that? This is more hypothetical now since its too late to do much.

Snitch to who? It's a condition that's usually really hard for the people around the person affected, it's very hard for the person affected in the beggning but once they start to have no insight in their disease it usually gets easier on them, but even worse for the family and friends.

The wife probably needs a lot of support and help honestly, it's very hard and devastating for everyone in that situation.

The core thought is to make the person with dementia to feel secure and safe in their reality, which contradicts how you should treat people with psychosis (where you shouldn't encourage their delusions), and you gotta think outside the box, if they do something strange, and it doesn't hurt them or anyone else but they still feel good about it, let them, which can be very hard for the people close to them to accept. Sometimes you can't really do anything about it, it's a very complicated, you gotta asses each person on their core individial level.

My recomendation overall is that next of kin should not become a caregiver, they should be the role the had, wife, husband, siblin, child etc, but have an outside party to help them.

I don't know, but anything that can mess up the brain, even alcohol has it's own diagnoses, alcohol dementia.

Thank you. They actually had hired 2 other caregivers as well. But they were there for the daytime. So my mom would care for her at night. But she barely slept at all. It was so hard for her. Dementia is a bitch
