Sometimes these situations happen when a new shelter opens. Since the beds are limited and it's first come first serve every night, the homeless tend to park around in nearby streets so they can be among the first in line at the opening hour in the evening.

If that's the case, there's not much you can do.

I live in SF near mission district which is the main street and attracts all kinds of people. But a few blocks up where everything was ok up until now.

I had one ask me to buy him a box of wine after at least 2 of his buddies tried and were denied by the liquor store for being too drunk already. I told him no and said the liquor store guy knows me and would deny me also. He got mad and was like "well how the fuck would he know and what business of it it his anyway?" or some shit and said I should claim "I forgot something..." when going back in and buying more. I said the guy knows me and wouldn't believe me if I said that. I've bought this specific homeless dude a few nips at times in the past and I've always been polite to him even if I haven't "helped him out." He got mad and told me to fuck off so I got mad back and told him to fuck off and he started posturing and was like "say that to my face" and I was like "I'm saying it to your face right now. You fuck off." He acted like he wanted to fight but I don't think he really did (his buddies were just sitting around and they were chattering but not actually doing anything either). I walked away a little bit later and his buddies were saying stuff to me but I was done paying attention to them by then. Pissed me off because I had been nice to this dude before and he usually wasn't like that and I had bought him nips once in a while. That isn't happening again. I know who he is and he's getting the cold shoulder now after pulling that shit.

It's not just for existing, it's for intruding on other people's property.

It's fucked up that they're homeless, yeah. At the same time, who wants to be hounded and harassed the second they leave their house? Much less having so many near where you live anyway? Some want to just sleep, but there's definitely gonna be those shooting up, drinking, and doing all types of other derelict shit.

It's cold, I get it, but you can't have a bleeding heart when you live in the city, otherwise you'll be walked all over by dudes looking to take advantage of you.

Nah man homeless people get harassed by cops for existing all the time. Homeless people aint saints and a lot of them are fucked up, but theres no reason to pretend that they dont get harassed just because they have to be outside somewhere.

well it ended because he was like "well fuck you you should have just walked away and not said anything" and I was like "that's exactly what I was doing until you came up to me and asking me to do something I couldn't do and then talking shit to me after. If you hadn't done that, I'd have fucked off already" and he was like "well then sorry." I was okay with that and the conversation was done.

I've been seeing the same handful in the same area across different boroughs for a couple years now and the police don't even look in their direction.

Thats good, but even the way you phrase this makes it sound like theyd be harassed if they werent in a specific area.

I mean, why would I do that? I own one house that I live in. There are 3-4 empty properties for every one homeless person. They sit empty solely for the purpose of creating an artificial scarcity which allows the people who own them to charge exorbitantly high prices while simultaneously getting tax breaks for the "loss" they are taking on the ones they don't rent out. I'm not the one exploiting this system they are.
