Is there a chance any Republicans vote no if/when Trump nominates an unqualified crazy person like Amy Barrett?

Why would Romney be against this?

Trump legally has the right to appoint a judge. The only reason why people think he doesn't is because of what Mitch did to Obama in 2016. But it was wrong then, and it's wrong now.

It's fair to call the republicans who did that in 2016 and want to appoint a judge now hypocrits, but Romney didn't even hold an office in 2016 when the last one happened.

Also, there's the obvious 'Romney is a conservative' so he wants a conservative judge. Even though it's Trump appointing it, the republican congress will probably have most of the voice in who gets picked.

It reminds me of the Liberal Lincoln Project supporters. These people seem to constantly forget a lot of these GOP politicians are just anti-Trump. Not anti-Republican. I don't get why they keep needing to be reminded.

Well Lincoln Project actually spoke out against nominating a new justice. Which kind of surprised me seeing as it goes against not just Trump, but Republicans in general

As the atheist whose book you based your name on would love America to be a christian theocracy.

The marriage of Randian objectivism and christian fundamentalism that makes up the modern republicans makes no sense.

While technically true, Romney is citing "precedent" as a reason why its fine for him to do this, which is a lie, since the precedent would be the one set in 2015 when the republicans refused to allow Obama to name a new judge because it was his final year in office.

It certainly doesn't help that Romney is being a hypocrite here, even if its something he would want.

The republicans will just do the same thing they did in 2015, where immediately after Obama's pick expired when Trump took office, they started saying the minority democrats will be blocking the new appointment at whatever cost, since its bad when they do it and good when we do it.

I randomly tuned into those Sunday morning political shows. And Ted Cruz said seats were filled iirc 15 out of something like 19 times in election years. It had to have been at least 80% of time. And it always happened when President and Senate were same party

Some folks fell for the stunt of him joining BLM protestors. He's a Republican, like the rest of them he fell in line.

He's not going to be negatively affected by the policies of this dumpster fire administration, the packing of the Fed courts with 200+ mostly young, white, male, right wing judges and a super majority conservative Supreme Court. So it's no skin off of his nose.

If only McConnell had actually called a vote and denied Garland, there would be no controversy here. Rare fuck up from the shitty turtle.

You say that like they give a shit about controversy. They're laughing while getting what they want and will get another appointee in the next term too. Your country is fucked beyond belief.

My only hope is that Romney has some sort of deal with a few other republicans to allow the nominations to go forward but vote against all of them, just to kill time until January.

Yeah, I thought the point of the group was disenfranchised Republicans who want Trump out, but their page is mostly liberals whining about Ronald Reagan and the actual republicans getting mad.
