So I collect various things, pretty big into Marvel Legends.

My. God.

The community is beyond toxic and just the cringiest group of nerds around. Most talk/act like they're military (CONSTANT "bro", "brother" etc) "bro can you help me out with X?" "I got your back BROTHER, helping is what this is all about!". They throw around the term "fellow collector" needlessly ("I got an Endgame Iron Man from a FeLlOw CoLlEcToR!!!") like they're some rare gem or something.
Then there's the brokebois. Half these toolboxes dont understand collecting and feel entitled to pay original retail on like a 6 year old rare figure and will attack the FUCK out of anyone who has the audacity to make even a dollar of a "fellow collector". Like idgaf that we share an interest. You want this Rouge, I need $120, calling me "brother" doesnt change that wtf.
I have seen numerous times (I was an admin in a group but quit before I jumped off a fucking roof) grown ass men get into arguments over price on an item they dont even want ("I'm just looking out for my FeLlOw CoLlEcToRs!!!!") and eventually start threatening to r*** and murder their kids. I wish to christ I was making that up or it was an isolated incident. Over literally $5 difference these fuck tools will threaten someones children, its unreal.
People (who probably shouldnt be buying freaking TOYS) having complete meltdowns when they cant find a figure BEFORE it even releases. Then if someone does luck out and find an early release and wants say $5 more than what they paid they go into hysterics. "WTF BRO does that come with lube too? You should kill yourself you scalper fuck!"
Like wow. If you equate $5 to having your butt violated, buying toys is the last thin you need to be doing rn.

I legit found an April O'Neil first release this way when I was a kid looking at the TMNT section of Lionel Kiddie City

I think some other kid must have wanted it, his mom wouldn't buy it for him so he hid it. It was a rare find back then. My mom would take me on truck day and i'd stand there and watch the guy unpack the boxes waiting to see if an April hit the shelf.

I have some random collectors edition statues for video games. Ive also been collecting the new Doom Eternal figures. Been looking at a Prime One statue as well but I dont know if I can bring myself to pull the trigger.

Not my problem yard sale moms don't know or care what they have. I refuse to accept anyone with kids doesnt know super hero merch has secondary market value or ebay doesnt exist.

Using your same rationale, I should be able to buy a copy of Uncanny X-Men #1 for 15 cents because so so many people sold them at yard sales.

Nice! Statues can be spendy but also shoot way up in value. I'm too worried about breaking one to collect them though

I collect Star Wars Black Series figures and I will say that it has been extremely hard to find stuff anymore. Between cool figures being made exclusives (like Darth Nihilus being announced today) or bad case assortments (double packing figures in less demand over ones that are wanted) or doing too many versions of the same character (how many versions of Rey are needed). My Target has had some of the same figures since last fall and have yet to really much in terms of new stuff.

As absurd as it sounds, with Hasbros terrible QC, I've gotten in the habit of heating up limbs with a hair dryer if they show any resistance. Haven't snapped a limb since, those elbow joints are janky

Most of the time I have no issues, but once and a grand while something goofy happens, and it's always the elbow joints.
