  • the Contra series
  • the CastleVania series
  • the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series
  • the Gradius / Lifeforce series
  • arcade exclusive beat 'em ups like The Simpsons and X-Men
  • run-and-gun arcade games like Sunset Riders and Mystic Warriors
  • fun NES license games such as Bucky O'Hare and Monsters in My Pocket
  • USA! USA! USA! games such as Green Barret / Rush 'n Attack and Jackal
  • C.O.W.Boys of Moo Mesa (whatever, the gameplay had awesome mechanics)
  • they even made Zombies Ate My Neighbors happen after LucasArts had more or less given up on releasing the game

What happened? If they were any better back in the day, they probably would've tried a hand at making a console of their own.

I grew up with a Sega Genesis. When you saw that Konami ribbon logo at startup with that awesome sound, you knew you were in for a great time. I used to rent Sunset Riders, Hyperstone Heist and Tournament Fighters all the time until I finally owned them. Still need to get around to adding Castlevania Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures and Hard Corps to the collection.

I never played them, but they also did Dance Dance Revolution. Love it or hate it, that series was a hit.

What happened?
A change in management (I believe) who discovered that pachinko machines, spa clubs, and mobile games got them far more money with far less effort than actually making games.

Essentially. New guy takes over. Management changes. Konami no longer gives a crap about video games.

They apparently had a history of mistreating their talent and staff too.

It's sad really. Konami was a huge part of my childhood and made some of my favorite games of all time.

Konami made the best version of the original Prince of Persia. Too bad it's forever gone with the Wii Shop Channel closed.

Unless you can still get it on Wii U, but I wouldn't know since I never got one.

If it was never rereleased onto the Wii U eShop, then yeah, it's gone forever.
