It's good. No other game let's you swing around and fight enemies like spiderman except for the old spiderman games.

it has some of the pitfalls of the open world genre like collectables in order to upgrade, but the biggest problem in other games is typically the travel method which is fortunately insanely fun in spider-man.

it also has some pretty boring out-of-character stealth moments but they're short enough not to annoy first time through.

it's definitely worth a run through and i've been contemplating a story-only replay since i have yet to play the DLC.

only other big gripe is that it's exclusive and therefore only 30 fps.

GOTY edition is ideal for a 30 something hour Spidey experience.

Storytelling is probably on par or better than the first 2 Sam Raimi films. Very exceptional.
Combat and webslinging is super easy to master.
20+ Spidey suits to unlock and wear including the Tobey Maguire and all Tom Holland costumes
Open world side quests are diverse enough and not unreasonably bloated that they don't feel like chores to 100%.
J Jonah Jameson's "Infowars" podcast is hilarious
The villains aren't shit like in the Arkham games and you actually physically fight them and use your Spidey wits to stop them.
Stealth missions with MJ are...okay. Just a decent change of pace from the normal gameplay although only a couple sections are fun teaming up with AI Spiderman.

Swinging is a lot of fun, but kind of inaccurate. Which makes some trials for upgrade tokens really suck.

And i was a total dumbass in combat too. Wasn't until I was in the endgame that I made life easier for myself. Used to beat down enemies until their health was gone. Finally clicked that if I knocked them on the ground, I could just web them to the street and they were done for that encounter.

Too many stupid collectibles. Wasted so much. I think game developers should put 10 satisfying to find items than 40 boring fetch items

you mean as a finisher(which seems to be in a games with arkham-like combat) or literally shooting webs when they're on the ground?

can't remember if the latter was a thing or if i even did it though.

The latter. I knew you could pin them to walls if they were close enough. I don't know why it took me so long to try it the other way. So I would pop them in the air, hit them a time or two, then spam the R1 button to stick them to the street.

It's the best iteration of Spider-Man outside of the comics. They finally got the open world web slinging concept down, Spider-Man was made for this kind of game and they got it right.

They blew their load too early with a couple of plot points that feel awkward
Plus awkward boring mandatory stealth sections

But it has great gameplay and as per usual with Good Spidey games, swinging around the city just messin' around, finding collectibles and doing side quests is great fun

It has some repetitive stuff but far from an excessive amount. Enemies type usually change up for them, for example.

It's pretty good, and the web swinging is even better than it initially appears. I played through the game a few times to get the max bench marks, which really taught me when all the swing moves will work and are actually useful. But the side stuff is very repetitive, especially the sheer number of random crimes if you want to go for completion. There's also a handful of random missables, but i made a thread on the spider man board covering those if you actually care lol.

Also the web swinging speed challenges are pretty easy to do if you're really in tune with the swinging system, but can be stupidly frustrating the first time around. And they definitely require some level of memorization to get the gold mark.

On replays they're way more boring and annoying than the first time through. I liked them the first go around, but they feel really pointless the second time.

yea, they break up the momentum.

there are some story segments where you play as Peter and hang out at this homeless shelter where Aunt May works, and if they wanted to show some kinda diversity in the game, it should have just had more of those parts rather than the stealth stuff, IMO.
