And that's the problem. Your job as a parent is to teach your kids to be better than yourself, if you try and do that strictly through authoritarian measures you will fail. Love and compassion go way farther than fear.

They're using the word "strict", but they mean aggressive, or plain angry. You can be strict while also being gentle and understanding.

Wow, thanks for sharing that tweet.

I talked with my surviving brother about this, sort of, once. He pointed out something about our parents. That they would fly into an insane rage over the tiniest thing, but also sometimes completely ignore big things. It was very confusing.

They're using strict wrong. My sixth grade teacher was strict but at the same time he was one of the coolest teachers I ever had.
