Just did almost everything right; it was not boring nor was it overly flashy and just had a great story with great characters.

I love FF7, but FF9 hits a special place in your heart somewhere after all these years.

I can see why the Devs are thinking about revisiting FF9 at some point in the future; FF9's world did seem to have more of a interesting past that wasn't explored too much.

Also those Stone Soldiers at the very end of the game under the Iifa Tree seems interesting.

I disagree personally, because of the (imo) dreadful combat, but it definitely had great characters and story (for the most part anyway). I know the devs loved going back to the series roots with it. Good soundtrack too.

Judging by the Devs comments; it looks like they'll have to at least get Sakaguchi's blessing on the matter.

I would actually be thrilled if Sakaguchi would comeback for just this particular world.

New fan or old fan? Combat systems at the time was the norm for most RPGs due to how they had to get it to work; PS1 wasn't overly powerful on processing high action unless it was a straight up action game and even then those games had issues.

I try not to knock it down for that because "you had to be there" kind of deal with PS1 games; that is why I think they added those speed boosters for the remasters.

I hate the story mechanic of pausing the main game to go check on someone else. What was it called? You didn't HAVE to watch them, but it was good to do so. Sometimes you just want to save and turn the game off, but then they send you 3 of these f'n things.

Also, the battles are so fucking slow. You HAVE to have Auto-Haste just to make it seem like a normal fight

It was the epitome of the classic FF lore and themes. Crystals and airships and shit. But managed to be unique and offer twists to the formula.

The guy clearly never truly tried to understand the gameplay; you can customize all the characters to their fullest potential if you know what you're doing.

Like most old FF games you can make the characters truly OP and broken.

I try not to pay attention to those youtubers.

Yeah, I'm still of the opinion that IX really was the best. Did it have flaws? Of course.

Can those flaws be fixed in a remake or sequel or any follow up in the world/setting? Absolutely.

And yes, I want a full blown remake. Hell, it is literally one of the few remakes that Square could probably tackle and alter the ending and everyone be absolutely fine with it, especially if it makes it better.

The characters and story are 10/10 but its shitty ass molasses gameplay, EVEN with the speed up on the remaster, ruins it

I played it at the time and also recently (well about 3 years ago) and whilst at the time it was alright (but still kinda slow!) these days it's just too much of a chore. I think square(enix) realised this was the case with 7, 8 & 9 so like you say the boosters were added but imo 9 really does need it. Sort of in the same way 12 needed it. Not so much for 7 & 8 but still nice to have.

nah that wasn't it. there were pauses before and after your character would actually execute an attack. the animations themselves weren't actually that bad aside from some magic attacks and the summons (which is pretty normal for ff games anyway).

The remaster despite its flaws (which is fixed on PC thanks to mods) was desperately needed; the old FMV format seems like it was having issues on newer systems and there other graphical (but very minor) bugs that came from official emulation or just playing from the disc (issues vary between the two) unless you straight up just play this on PS1 on a CRT then you would never notice the problems.

I think if it had gone on like it did the game would had more issues.

The problem with SE is the fact they don't put much budget and effort with the old games now.

FFX -

The fact they completely erased facial movements throughout various important scenes was a big downgrade to me, but for some reason FFX-2 was left mostly intact (which is odd); I'm surprised they didn't try to fix this.
The Music & Battle Bug (both been fixed after like what a long ass time?).

FF7 Remaster -
Again the Music Bug (which took them a long ass time)

FF8 Remaster -
AGAIN the Music Bug (which took them a long ass time)
Half-assed reworked 3D objects
Squall looks nothing like he did in the original (who the hell hired the guy to do this one job?)
Rinoa looks just a tad strange in the face (was this a attempt at FMV Rinoa?)
Environment Object bug with the map (this has been unconfirmed I think) because some people had different experiences with what the map objects looked like; apparently they don't actually look terrible, but there is some kind of bug that causes to look odd.

Before someone points out Siren; that was more of a damned if you do or don't situation; I don't blame the Dev having to make a decision on that; her privates would have looked kind of..well yeah instead of a Shell covering it.

FF9 Remaster -
Bad blurred backgrounds
The original script was actually changed that mostly involved people's dialects or was slurred English (this makes no sense to change, but whatever), I don't think this was censorship but more like some idiot in their office thought the script had typos, and now its just plain English; that kind of destroyed the charm of some of the NPCs.
The Original Font is gone; why did they even do this? Dumb change is dumb.
The Battle Menu (though fixed now), but it still doesn't look right IMO.
Again with the music bug (which is patched after a long ass time).
Missing Monster SFX Death Sounds (some people don't realize this)
Missing Weapon SFX sounds (It doesn't sound like the PSX counterparts)

They either need to get better people to work on these games or stop using third party companies to do their dirty work.

I highly HIGHLY recommend no one buy the console versions, and just buy the PC versions for all Remasters because clearly they don't respect their older material anymore.

don't forget they also messed up the encounter rate. you can walk through some areas that have smaller screens to go through with almost zero encounters (like cleyra's trunk).

you're right that the mods fix almost all the problems. the one big issue remaining is the menu fps is extremely low. pretty sure menus ran at 60 fps on the psx.

@ROBANN_88

I made a small mistake; the guy by the docks was retained; I'm still going through the FF9 Mobile Script to see what else has been changed though.

But from what I've seen and read the changes was minimal, and not throughout (as I'm going through reddit comments)

For instance Conde Petie is fully intact.

It seems like this was a error from the staff on very minimal number of NPCs like the girl at the beginning.

@Frogles

I almost forgot, but Shimmering Isle no longer shimmers as its just static graphic that doesn't glow; apparently the glow was removed for unknown reasons.

Probably had to do something with how the effects were drawn, and they couldn't import it properly.

Given its a bit nitpicky because you only go there for like one second, but things add up.
