It's not that polarizing. You like it but understand it has flaws. Or you dislike it and go "eh but at least it tried something different".

I never heard it to be polarizing. Though people did have issues with specific things.

I liked it up until Cole cheated on his wife and then the game took the biggest downswing Ive seen in some time
Man, the entire back half of that game was so disappointing. I liked the beginning where it was more like just standard police stuff

It was fine, I was disappointed that there wasn't a larger mystery linking together the cases.

Do you specifically not like that plot point, or is it just coincidence it went on a downswing after?

I don't think anyone really liked it all that much, so not really. Something like Deadly Premonition is a lot better option for the most polarizing game of last gen.

If I had to pick a game I'd probably say something like FF 13 was far more polarizing than LA Noire. LA Noire feels like it came and went with most folks not even caring

Is that the game where you have to find clues and navigate through conversations? But you actually have to answer correctly, or start the convo over again lol

no thanks

Friend of mine spoiled the ending by writing "RIP COLE PHELPS" on a facebook status when I was like a week into the game.

I mostly see negativity online not polarization. And most of it seems to stem from the fact that people expected you to be able to run around and shoot everybody in a game where you play as a cop

Agreed. Personally, I loved it despite the flaws. Well worth a play through, especially with how cheap you can get in now.

For real. First of all, that shit kinda came outta nowhere. And then we go from interesting crimes to simply arson? I feel like they gave up before finishing it.

I really enjoyed the game. But more specifically like the first 2/3 of the game. The climax for me was the end of the homicide cases. So after those events occur and you get "demoted" and put on arson cases, the game became very dull for me and I struggled to finish it. It's such a shame. It's like the main storyline builds up over the first 15-20 hours while you do traffic and homicide cases, and then it gets resolved. But they threw on like another 5-10 hours of arson cases that introduced a new storyline and felt very shoehorned in. If the game had just ended at homicide, I feel it would have been better received.

So yeah, the first 2/3 of the game was amazing for me. But it really skidded to the finish line after that.

The ending of the murder desk pissed me off. The terrible on rails driving annoyed me. The way that a noir detective turns into the Terminator cause we can't have a video game where you don't shoot ten billion people bugged the hell out of me.

The thing is though, that if you boil all that away, the game has almost no depth. The detective work you do boils down to looking in the trashcan right outside the nightclub where the murder happened to find the bloody knife, or inspect the victim's wallet and then ask the people present some questions. There's more investigative depth to Phoenix Wright for God's sake (note: hyperbole).

The only thing the game really has going for it is an amazing atmosphere. And while it is damn good, it doesn't manage to hold up everything else. In general, I get annoyed playing the game.

A few missions might've been okay, and the facial tech was great, but on the whole, I'd say it's a bad game. Absolutely hated the gunplay aspects and many other aspects weren't very interesting.
