Had a playthrough topic going a while back but I got distracted with TLoU2 and it got deleted, but now I've finally finished it.

Wasn't as bad as people claimed it to be, though it's definitely only about a 7/10. And of course, I had played Berseria beforehand, so I feel like without that as context for the world and characters -- seeing how everything tied together after 1000 years -- I would have had a lot less reason to care about what was going on.

The story was pretty weak, and the characters were...there, I guess. It was pretty sloppy writing overall, though, and it didn't really do anything for me to care about most of the cast. Especially the villains, who were barely around. And then all the "did you find your answer?" stuff at the end just felt weird, since I didn't feel any buildup to these resolutions or character arcs. Like Edna's arc was saving Eizen -- they did absolutely nothing with that, then at the end, Edna's just ready to accept Sorey's solution to kill him. Like...okay. Whatever.

The gameplay was alright. I liked Armatization more than anything Velvet could do in Berseria. And the music was fantastic, especially in the elemental trial shrines.

Yeah, Berseria retroactively makes Zestiria... not good, but not a complete fucking snoozefest, either. Music is Zestiria's sole saving grace as far as I'm concerned.

I'm partial to the fire temple theme, but all four are great.

Always enjoyed entering them simply to hear what the next theme was gonna be.

it's fun in multiplayer, even if flawed

i don't see what makes this game so outrageously bad among a series that's 7/10 at the very best

I liked the gameplay, most locations, and the music. It's just the writing and characters that were weak, but even then not awful.

Character designs were also good.

The fire trial, rising up, and the dlc episode battle theme were my favorite music tracks from the game, but man the battle system is friggin' awful. I am a huge tales of fan that tends to replay a tales of game at least twice just because of the gameplay, but zestiria......yeah, I don't want to experience the ass armatization, the characters and their terrible artes lists, the awful A.I. and the awful equipment skill system ever again. I was so done with the game that I just used rose and dream slashered my way through the game just to get it over with, lol.

The Zestiria the X anime starts off good and promising, but ends up worse than the game for the most part due to all of the lame pointless Berseria advertisement, lots of inconsistencies with the original plot of the game, pointless filler characters who exist for no good reason and waste precious screen time and fan pandering. The second half with all of the filler is were it really goes down hill. It's really a damned shame too, because if the anime just delved into existing character motives and backgrounds more and stayed mostly consistent with the game's original plot it could have turned out pretty great. Sadly, all it's turned out to be is pointless pandering filler as it's stated to officially be noncanon by the devs, when it comes to the actual Zestiria and Tales timelines.

Magilou and Rita are arguably the most fun to play in their respective games if you have the right skills equipped.

You mean Namco Bandai because that's the company that owns the Tales IP. Anyway, yeah, it would be great if they enhanced ported over Zestiria / Berseria as a collection to the Switch with some technical and AI improvements for Zestiria.

And that is exactly why xillia 2 imo has the best battle system in the series. Everyone was fun to play because of their character gimmicks. Elize with her teepo modes, rowen and his arte tuning, and muzet with her warping.

They technically are mages, but they are all more hybrids than anything else. Tales series stopped making mage characters who are strictly spell casters characters a long time ago.

Zestiria is so poorly optimized as is, I'd be surprised if it even ran on Switch.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of needless padding and diverging from the main story already. I'm on episode...9 or 10? And they're just doing different stuff for the sake of doing different stuff.

Some of it does help the original plot, but a lot of it just seems unnecessary.

Seeing some flashbacks of Eizen and Edna together was real nice, though. I've always wanted some scenes of them together.
